Hunter Protection Act
Allows deer hunters to carry a handgun for personal protection
Deer hunters in Iowa are currently prohibited from carrying while hunting. SF2026 would amend the current legal code related to the carrying of firearms to allow carry. If passed this would allow a lawful Permit to Carry holder to carry a handgun while hunting, but it cannot be used to hunt deer.
Passage of this bill would benefit tens of thousands of Iowans. Hunters in Iowa are routinely out before dawn and after dusk. With an increase in large predators such a mountain lions, and the ongoing issue of large numbers of coyotes in Iowa, deer hunters deserve to be able to carry a firearm for their own protection just the same as any other citizen who has a Permit to Carry.
