The Iowa House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on five pieces of pro gun owner legislation tomorrow morning. The Hearing Protection Act, Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act, Privacy Protection Act, ATV Carry Act & Emergency Protection Act are all slated for debate and votes in the House.
Second Amendment Day
Don’t forget tomorrow is also our Second Amendment Day in the Iowa legislature. The National Rifle Association and American Suppressor Association will be joining the Iowa Firearms Coalition and our members to lobby for the passage of these bills and watch them voted on in the House.
We’ll be providing talking points, shirts, and stickers to anyone that attends. If you’re planning to join us we will be setting up shop at 8AM. The House of Representatives begins their day at 8:30AM and the Senate at 9AM.
We expect to see floor action on our bills in the House beginning at roughly 10AM. During any downtime we encourage all of our guests to try to meet individually with their legislators, particularly their senators. IFC leaders will also be talking with our guests and if time allows we believe a few legislators would like to address our members as well.

Just saying while we are expending energy on “minor” issues that don’t offend anyone, if these measures are passed which is a good thing, the legislature will think they have accomplished something. What good is having a firearm if they won’t allow us to defend ourselves with it? Like having a case of Condoms and be impotent! It’s not weather we get the tough fights passed that is important, it’s not whether we can win the fights we carefully choose and massage and grease them up so as nobody will notice, it’s we must fight the fights that need to be fought. Lets get down to business and stop trying to act like your doing something pro-2nd amendment. We need Stand Your Ground/Consitutional Carry most of all. At present time if someone points a gun at me either in my HOME or out in public, I’m supposed to turn around and run so the perp can shoot me in the back. Nice going Iowa legislative body! We are given the right to carry a hand gun for self protection by our creator. You folks have tied our hands and we live under the threat of going to jail if the prosecuting Attorney so desires and he does. If God forbid we are accosted by a murderer or thief, what are we to do?

@Gary Barton. While I would like a castle doctrine, this law below does cover much of the issue you presented. In the example you cited, this law should protect you.
704.1 REASONABLE FORCE.
“Reasonable force” is that force and no more which a
reasonable person, in like circumstances, would judge to be necessary
to prevent an injury or loss and can include deadly force if it is
reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to avoid injury or
risk to one’s life or safety or the life or safety of another, or it
is reasonable to believe that such force is necessary to resist a
like force or threat. Reasonable force, including deadly force, may
be used even if an alternative course of action is available if the
alternative entails a risk to life or safety, or the life or safety
of a third party, or requires one to abandon or retreat from one’s
dwelling or place of business or employment.
While this is all nice the truth is these are very minor in overall scope to what we should be passing. CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY AND STAND YOUR GROUND are the meat of this carcass and we pussy foot around them. Surpressors? Age requirement to start instruction? Hearing protection? ATV carry? Big friggin deal.

There is absolutely zero chance of getting stand your ground or constitutional carry while Democrats control Senate. I will take these small steps over no steps any day.
