Suppressors & Unfinished Business
IFC Legislative update week 12

Congrats Iowans! By now the odds are very good that you’ve heard about the Hearing Protection Act being signed into law. You’re now free to own a suppressor in Iowa. This has been long overdue. It’s been six years since the Iowa legislature has agreed on anything that benefits gun owners in Iowa. And if it weren’t for your relentless action they’d still be stonewalling us.

Legalizing suppressors in Iowa is a big win, but we cannot lose sight of the unfinished business still sitting in the legislature. We’re talking about House File 2314, the Privacy Protection Act. There are other bills and issues that also need addressing (Stand Your Ground, Constitutional Carry, supervised youth shooting, etc.), but those bills are all dead for the year and will be reintroduced in 2017. The Privacy Protection Act is still alive. The bill has passed the House and the Senate Judiciary Committee and is currently waiting for a vote in the full Senate.

We’ve managed to push this bill into the red zone, and it’d be a colossal mistake to let it die so close to the end zone. This bill has already passed the House 97 to 1, and every law enforcement group in Iowa has registered in support of HF2314 in its original form. There’s no logical reason for Senate Democrats to continue to stall this bill. Passing The Privacy Protection Act protects hundreds of thousands of Iowans from unnecessarily having their personal information broadcast to the whole world. We’ve just set up a new Advocacy Campaign directed at the Senate urging them to bring this bill to a vote. Please click the link below and email your senator.

Finally, we’re proud to urge all IFC members and voting NRA members to reelect Pete Brownell to the NRA Board of Directors. Brownell, the CEO of Brownell’s, Inc., is an Iowa native and resident. He’s currently the First Vice President of the NRA, but we’re most proud to call him an IFC Board member. Pete Brownell has our vote for NRA Board and deserves your vote as well!

More updates to come. Thank you for your continued support of the Iowa Firearms Coalition!
