• 5 Ways to Actually Help Protect the 2A (Other than Argue on Social Media)

    June 14, 2016

    Gun Control on Facebook

    1. Write your legislators

Right now lawmakers are being flooded with calls and emails from anti-gunners. If they don’t hear from you, pro-Second Amendment voters, they may start to think no one cares about protecting our right to keep and bear arms.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition has just activated a new advocacy campaign. This pre-written email takes less than 30 seconds to send, and will be sent to your US Senator, Congressmen, and the President. Send your copy today, then get a friend to do the same.

    2. Take a non-shooter to the range

Introducing non-shooters to our lifestyle is a phenomenal way to create new Second Amendment advocates. There are a lot of people out there who don’t own guns, but are friendly to our cause. In many cases, they just have never been asked to go shooting.

So take someone new to the range. Show them a safe and enjoyable time. Then, after you’ve finished, explain to them why you feel the way the way you do about protecting the Second Amendment. They may not automatically agree with everything you do, but you’ve helped them take the first step, and that’s often the most difficult.

    3. Join the NRA

There’s a reason why the Bloomberg crew spends so much time bashing the NRA and no one else…

Lots of people talk tough about protecting the Second Amendment, but no one delivers like the National Rifle Association.

As an NRA affiliate we can give you a $10 discount on an annual NRA membership. For just $30 you can put your money where your mouth is and support those who are leading the fight.

    4. Join your state NRA affiliate

Gun control zealots have made it clear, they’re focusing heavily on state level gun control measures in large part because the NRA is so successful at the national level. With that pivot towards state level gun control it’s extremely important that state level groups have plenty of support.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition is Iowa’s NRA affiliate. We have a track record of getting pro-gun laws passed, and stopping gun control measures. No one is more effective at getting things done in Des Moines. We’d love for you to join us.

    5. Volunteer with a pro-Second Amendment organization

Work a gun show booth. Help sign up new members. Handout fliers to prospective members. Help with campaign work and help put pro-Second Amendment legislators in office.

None of these things cost any money, yet they’re incredibly valuable.

If you’re an Iowan who believes in your right to keep and bear arms, sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Firearms Coalition. We’re an all volunteer organization, we’re Iowa’s NRA affiliate, and we’re always looking for more help. There’s no better way to do your part.

  • Iowa Gun Groups Donate $5,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital

    February 26, 2016

Gun groups doing good in the community.

A coalition of Second Amendment advocates in Iowa recently just donated more than $5,000 dollars to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A variety of means were used to raise the donation funds. Mitchell Arms and Ammo of Muscatine, Iowa and members of the Iowa Firearm Owners Alliance and the Iowa Firearms Coalition donated cash and merchandise to a general fund. Merchandise was auctioned off or given away as door prizes to donors with all proceeds returning to the general donation fund. The fundraising efforts netted more than $3,350 dollars.

That $3,350 St. Jude donation was funneled through a WLLR Radio telethon fundraiser. The money was put up as cash match for any donations made by WLLR listeners. This more than doubled the impact of the gun owner’s donation to St. Jude. As a donor to the telethon WLLR made the Iowa Firearms Coalition, Mitchell Arms and Ammo and the Iowa Firearm Owners Alliance each “Angels of the Hour” throughout their two-day telethon. This “Angel of the Hour” status meant that WLLR listeners were enlightened with pro Second Amendment messages while listening to their favorite country music and donating to St. Jude’s. Here’s an example:

At the check presentation on Friday, February 26th the collection of gun owners were recognized during a live interview on WLLR.

Fighting for freedom. Fighting for kids.

This donation to St. Jude’s will be used  to advance cures, and prevention, for catastrophic children’s diseases.

All of the donors, organizers, and participants of this fundraiser are pro Second Amendment. It’s no secret that there’s a coordinated, nationwide effort to paint gun owners as callous, racist and selfish people who don’t care for anyone else but themselves. This movement is backed billionaire 1%’ers. But while these anti gunners go out of their way to sling mud at NRA members and anyone who believes in their God-given and constitutionally protected rights, gun owners in Iowa are selflessly donating thousands of dollars to charity and the fight to end childhood cancer.

Think about that for a second. These aren’t “gun nuts” or radicals. These are everyday Iowans, Americans, and just plain old regular citizens, all united by their love of freedom. But also united by a common commitment to their community, and a desire to make the world better in ways that don’t require the shredding of their rights. This kind of behavior is more common than many non-gun owners care to acknowledge. Contrast that with #GunSense groups like Mom’s Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, Iowans for Gun Safety and so on… When was the last time you heard of them donating to anything like St. Jude’s?

The point is simple. Don’t believe the hype and don’t believe the anti gun owner propaganda being pushed by the national media and gun control groups that feed them stories of cold, callous, selfish gun owners.

We are taking a stand for our freedoms. We’re doing good in the community. We’re not stopping.

  • Legislative Update – Week 3

    January 31, 2016

It’s been a remarkable week in the Iowa legislature, particularly in the House of Representative’s Judiciary Committee. Monday the Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act passed its subcommittee vote. Tuesday the Hearing Protection Act passed its subcommittee vote. And Thursday the ATV Carry Act passed its subcommittee vote. This means we now have four bills awaiting votes in the full judiciary committee (the Emergency Protection Act passed its subcommittee vote a week ago), and expect more to be introduced.

For the latest information on each of these bills, including a list of which lawmakers will be voting on these issues next, head on over to our 2016 Iowa Legislative Session page.

This week also saw a noteworthy development on the national stage. Michael Bloomberg, the anti-gun movement’s sugar daddy recently announced that he’s seriously considering a run for president. He’s allegedly prepared to spend $1 billion dollars of his own money to self-fund his campaign. Bloomberg, the Godfather of Gun Control, thinks he could enter the race as a “moderate candidate” and take the White House. It sounds like a farce, but it’s possible.

Bloomberg’s announcement shines a light on a major problem here in Iowa. There’s zero mention of the people of Iowa’s right to keep and bear arms in our state constitution. We’re one of only six states in the entire country without a right to keep and bear arms clause in our state constitution. This oversight could prove disastrous should we ever find ourselves with another President Clinton… or President Bloomberg. The link below has more information about this situation and what the Iowa Firearms Coalition is doing to right this wrong.

And finally, we’re extremely proud to announce this year’s Second Amendment Day in the Iowa Legislature will be held on February 23rd. The Iowa Firearms Coalition has organized a legislative action day in the state capitol and it’s open to any and all pro-Second Amendment advocates in Iowa.

Come out, meet IFC’s lobbyists and leaders, meet your fellow Second Amendment advocates, but most importantly meet your legislators and make your voice heard in the absolute best way possible, face-to-face.

This year’s Second Amendment Day will be on a Tuesday, so the legislature will be in session. Which means your legislators won’t be able to ignore the mass of Second Amendment advocates in the capitol. So circle that date and start making arrangements to bring a truckload of friends. Once again this year’s Second Amendment Day will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd.

2/23… 2.23… .223… see what we did there? 😉 More details about what time to be in the capitol and what to expect will be released soon. For now please hit the link below and sign up to join us at the capitol!

Thanks for your ongoing support Iowans!

  • Michael Bloomberg exposes a MAJOR problem for gun owners in Iowa

    January 29, 2016

    Michael Bloomberg Iowa Firearms Coalition

    Bloomberg ’16?

Gun control extraordinaire Michael Bloomberg made headlines recently after announcing he may run for President of the United States. Bloomberg is under the impression that if Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders end up as the party nominees for the Republicans and Democrats he could run as a ‘moderate’ independent candidate and win the White House.

Hillary Clinton has been falling over herself trying to cram gun control down American’s throats. Not to be outdone Bernie Sanders has taken his already questionable record on gun control and doubled down on how he’d infringe on the rights of law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment. As bad as that sounds imagine what life would be like under a Michael Bloomberg presidency, the 1% godfather of gun control who’s bankrolling our nation’s gun control movement. Not a pretty picture. Now imagine if any one of these three were elected president and got to select the next Supreme Court justices. Things could turn south for gun owners faster than classified documents get deleted from Hillary’s unsecured email servers.

    BIG problems for Iowans

Bloomberg’s proposed presidential run exposes a very real problem we have here in Iowa: our state constitution has no mention, of any kind, of the people’s right to keep and bear arms. The state constitution protects pretty much every other right of the people of Iowa (free speech, religion, speedy trial, etc..) EXCEPT the right to keep and bear arms. There’s literally no mention of it.

Iowa is one of just six states in the country that does not have the equivalent of the Second Amendment in its state constitution. What does that mean? More importantly, why is this something we should care about? Well… imagine there’s a President Michael Bloomberg… or a President Hillary Clinton… then imagine what kind of lengths they’d go to to erode the Second Amendment at the federal level. Because Iowa has nothing in its state constitution guaranteeing the people of Iowa’s right to keep and bear arms, we would have no legal protection from infringements on the federal Second Amendment.

    Constitutional Amendment

Amending the Iowa Constitution is the only way to make this situation right. But that’s easier said than done. Amending the state constitution isn’t like getting a bill signed into law. Amending the state constitution requires that a proposed amendment be voted on and approved by both the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa Senate. This has to happen in two general assemblies of the Iowa legislature, so this process could theoretically take up to four years just get this measure on the ballot. Then, and only then, is the proposed amendment placed on a statewide ballot and it’s then up to the people of Iowa to vote on it.

It’s a very difficult row to hoe and we have our work cut out for us. But if we can re-shape the landscape in the Iowa legislature and knock Iowa’s gun-control caucus from power our chances of passing this amendment go up significantly.

The anti-gunners in the Iowa legislature know a constitutional amendment is a goal of ours. Defeating it is a written goal of theirs. They’re perfectly fine leaving you open to federal gun control measures. But they’re also hedging their bets. They recognize that if the constitutional amendment movement begins to really take hold they’ll have to do something, anything in their power, to make that amendment as weak as possible in order to leave the door open for future gun control measures.

For years they’ve filed bills that would put a weakly written right to keep and bear arms amendment in the Iowa constitution. They’ve just never moved them forward as there’s been little support for a constitutional amendment from the pro-gun owner crowed. As firm believers in the people’s right to keep and bear arms the Iowa Firearms Coalition will be doing everything we can to make sure we get an amendment that is airtight with ZERO wiggle room for anti-gunners to infringe on Iowan’s God-given right to keep and bear arms.

Anti-gunners have already tipped their hand. We’ve seen the wording they want to use if push comes to shove. If they’re forced to do anything regarding a constitutional amendment they’ll almost certainly push for an amendment that simply mirrors the current Second Amendment in the U.S. Bill of Rights. On the surface this sounds great, “…shall not be infringed.” But that’s unacceptable. Way too many people think the Second Amendment is about hunting. Way too many people think “well regulated militia” means only the military. Way too many people think the right to keep and bear arms is not an individual right.

We have an opportunity to make the right to keep and bear arms crystal clear in Iowa and we intend to do just that.

    Improving “…shall not be infringed.”

Here’s the exact language of the Second Amendment:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

As we said, that sounds great. But if we have a chance to improve upon that, we’d be stupid not to. So, here’s what we want to see written into the Iowa Constitution.

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms, as herein expressed, shall not be infringed. The right of an individual to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer, and use arms to defend life and liberty and for all other legitimate purposes is fundamental and shall not be infringed upon or denied. Mandatory licensing, registration, or special taxation as a condition of the exercise of this right is prohibited, and any other restriction shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”

Getting this language enshrined into the Iowa Constitution will be a monumental task. But the work, and the stress, and the campaigning required to make this happen will pale in comparison to the constant threat of more gun control measures coming down from ‘on high’ from a President Bloomberg or another President Clinton.

    Sound the alarm

44 states have a right to keep and bear arms provision in their state constitutions. How Iowa failed to get this right in the original state constitution pre-dates all of us. But the important thing is that we get this fixed ASAP.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition has been pushing for this for years. But we need your help. We need you to help us educate Iowa’s firearms owners about this gross oversight. We’re here to protect and enhance the rights of all 3+ million Iowans, but the only way we can do that is if we have a groundswell of support. That wave has to start somewhere and we need that to be you. Make a constitutional amendment a personal priority. Explain this situation to your friends and family. Tell them you want to see your right to keep and bear arms written into the Iowa Constitution, and tell them who’s helping you make it happen. We’re here to help, but we need all of you to help raise the alarm about this critical issue. This is the biggest fight we can pick, and if it starts to take off we expect the anti-gunners to pullout all the stops. We’ll need each and every gun owner in Iowa to help push this over the finish line and into the Iowa Constitution.

  • Gun control advocates resort to fake terror attack in Iowa

    December 30, 2015

    A new low

It’s pretty common knowledge that gun control pushers don’t like Second Amendment advocates, but new details show just how low anti-gunners are willing to stoop in order to stop pro-gun owner legislation in Iowa.

Michael Dekota McRae recently plead guilty to one count of “Conveying False Information Concerning A Biological Weapon.” That charge stems from an April 3rd, 2012 incident where McRae wrote a threatening letter to Des Moines Representative Ako Abdul-Samad and packed it with a powdery white substance. The letter, filled with racist slurs, threats, and curse words was written to make gun owners look like racist terrorists. Here’s the kicker though, McRae was working as Abdul-Samad’s legislative clerk at the time. He wrote the letter, filled the envelope with a powdery white substance, sent it to Representative Abdul-Samad via inter-office mail and then McRae purposely opened the letter in the middle of the a House debate.

Here’s the text of the note McRae wrote:

Racist, threatening letter written by Michael McRae that was laced with a white powdery substance.

Racist, threatening letter written by Michael McRae that was laced with a white powdery substance.

As anyone can plainly see McRae uses racial slurs and threats to try to make gun owners and Stand Your Ground advocates look like murderous racists. A new low for gun control pushers here in Iowa and the rest of the country.

    Historical context

The incident occurred on April 3rd, 2012. Earlier in the legislative session the Iowa Firearms Coalition and the National Rifle Association had pushed Stand Your Ground legislation for the first time in state history. Prior to this no one else cared about enshrining your right to Stand Your Ground in the state legal code. The bill passed the House 60-38 but the Senate leadership refused to allow a vote on the bill once it landed on their desk. Since then the Iowa Firearms Coalition has continued to lead the charge for Stand Your Ground in Iowa, and a handful of others have come along to assist our efforts and follow IFC’s lead.

Fortunately though after a length investigations McRae’s 2012 facade fell apart and he was eventually arrested. Earlier this year he was charged with Conveying False Information Concerning A Biological Weapon. In late 2015 McRae plead guilty and will be sentenced in late March of 2016. He faces a maximum of 5 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

    Politics, lies and simulated terrorism

Michael McRae's 2015 plea agreement in which Representative Ako Abdul- Samad's clerk pleads guilty to faking a terrorist attack.

Michael McRae’s 2015 plea agreement in which Representative Ako Abdul- Samad’s clerk pleads guilty to faking a terrorist attack.

Second Amendment advocates in Iowa know all-to-well that hardcore anti-gunners in the Iowa legislature, particularly the Iowa Senate, use their positions of power to block pro-gun owner legislation from ever getting a vote (stand your ground, constitutional carry, gun owner privacy protection, legalized suppressors, and many more). We also know that gun control zealots in Iowa have no qualms about resorting to misinformation and misleading information about pro-gun owner legislation in an effort to confuse the people of Iowa. But sadly political power plays and lies just aren’t enough for gun control advocates in Iowa. They despise the pro-gun owner movement so much that at least some of them, are willing resort simulated terrorism to stop our side from making any progress. This is why it’s imperative that we conduct our business with the utmost class. Anti-gunners are absolutely desperate to paint the picture that Second Amendment advocates are a bunch of racist bullies who threaten bodily harm to anyone who opposes them. We work very hard to prove them wrong, and we need you to do the same.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition was the first to introduce Stand Your Ground in Iowa, and will continue to lead the charge until we get this signed into law. We’ll continue to do the same for every pro-gun owner bill that we possibly can — whether it’s constitutional carry, suppressors, supervised youth handgun training. If you believe in strengthening our Second Amendment rights here in Iowa we highly encourage you to become an IFC member. In the mean time we’ll continue to Stand and Fight to protect and enhance the freedom of all 3+ million Iowans.

  • SUCCESS! HyVee Corporate Denies Anti-Gunner’s Demands

    November 26, 2015

    HyVee Denies Gun Control Demands

Hyvee’s corporate office has made it crystal clear, they won’t be banning guns in their chain of grocery stores.

    MAJOR kudos IFC members!!!

We’ve stopped the latest infringement scheme pushed by Everytown for Gun Safety, Mom’s Demand Action, and the rest of the out of touch Bloomberg cronies! They attempted to badger HyVee grocery stores into banning the lawful carry of firearms in their stores but HyVee has now made their company wide position crystal clear!

The Iowa Firearms Coalition was the first to sniff out Everytown’s latest gun ban scheme last month. We immediately alerted our members urging you contact your HyVee stores and tell them to stand tall against the anti-gunner’s demands. You in turn did an absolutely outstanding job of respectfully reminding them that despite what the gun control zealots claim we are not the problem. Criminals, madmen, and radicals are the real threat to HyVee shopper’s safety and disarming law-abiding citizens merely turns us all into potential victims.

Our grassroots outreach campaign proved that the gun control zealots slick-looking misinformation campaigns (funded by the out of touch billionaire Michael Bloomberg) don’t resonate here in Iowa. We salute the decision makers at HyVee who took the time to look past the Everytown/Moms/Bloomberg demands and examine the facts. Thanks also to YOU, our members who took the time to reach out and correspond with the HyVee officials. Your efforts have led to numerous emails like this one:

    Hello IFC Member,

The email correspondence below was forwarded to me for clarification.

Your right to carry a legal weapon in our stores will not be infringed upon, and we have no plans to adopt any blanket policies with respect to signs or other communication with customers.

Whether it’s guns or the price of green beans, we let store directors handle any inquiries or concerns from customers who might be uncomfortable with seeing another customer with a gun.

If you need any other information, feel free to contact me.

    Larry Ballard

    Hy-Vee Communications

It’s always a good idea to acknowledge the good work of others, especially when they stand up to the anti-freedom demands of gun control zealots. So please take a moment to send the folks at HyVee a quick note of appreciation and say thanks to the store managers the next time you are at your local HyVee.

While we’re at it, we need to express our extreme gratitude to the Iowa Firearms Coalition membership. Without your willingness to step up and help, and without your steadfast support of our Second Amendment freedoms billionaires and out-of-state carpetbaggers would walk all over the people of Iowa.

If you’re not a part of the Iowa Firearms Coalition please become a member today. No one does more to protect and serve our Second Amendment rights here in Iowa. If you truly value your right to keep and bear arms, join the thousands who already stand with us.

    THANK YOU!

  • UPDATE: Bloomberg Crew Targeting Iowa Based HyVee Grocery Stores

    October 27, 2015
IFC members are beginning to hear back from HyVee officials.

IFC members are beginning to hear back from HyVee officials.

    Initial Response

Less than a week ago the Iowa Firearms Coalition discovered the latest Everytown for Gun Safety scheme. As we first pointed out on October 23rd the anti-gunners are targeting HyVee grocery stores.

Apparently they have to do something after their boycott of Kroger grocery stores ended in a complete and utter failure.

Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, Michael Bloomberg and host of other state level gun control advocates are now calling on HyVee to ban open carry in their stores. After our initial alert we saw a wave of Iowa Firearms Coalition members reaching out to HyVee. Here’s just one of the responses our members shared with us (click the image for a full resolution image).

An initial response from HyVee to an Iowa Firearms Coalition member who contacted them. Note the importance of contacting your local store managers!

An initial response from HyVee to an Iowa Firearms Coalition member who contacted them. Note the importance of contacting your local store managers!

    Local Store Managers Are Key

HyVee’s corporate policy is to adhere to state and local laws, which is good. But there’s a catch. HyVee lets each store decide if there’s any further restrictions that should be in place. As this particular email says…

“Autonomy is given to store directors, who we feel are in the best position to know those locals laws and gauge the sentiment of their neighborhood customers.”

We’ve added our own emphasis to that quote to highlight the most important part — store directors are the ones who determine whether or not bans such as this are taken up at HyVee grocery stores.

Moral of the story? Contacting the corporate offices is a great start, but if you really want to stop this gun ban non-sense you need to be contacting the HyVee store managers in your area.

    Key Points to Emphasize

Because we know the anti-gunners resort to misinformation and mischaracterization we highly encourage you to contact your local store managers about any potential gun bans at their store. Remember to be polite. These anti-gunners work extremely hard to paint a picture that gun owners are callous thugs and bullies. We need prove them wrong, and the best way of doing that is by being polite and respectful while making our case to neutral parties like HyVee store managers.

When talking to store officials there’s a few key facts to point out:

    1) Thank you for currently respecting the rights of all shoppers — including those who happen to be gun owners.

    2) Gun control advocates are trying to very hard to mischaracterize gun owners as a threat.

    3) Permit to Carry holders and gun owners are not the problem — criminals are — we’re law-abiding citizens going about our business in peace.

    4) Everytown for Gun Safety tried boycotting Kroger Grocery Stores over this same issue. Kroger stood behind its policy and the Everytown boycott no negative impact on Kroger’s sales.

    5) Please avoid the urge to ban gun. This does nothing but disarm and endanger your shoppers.

There’s more than 235 HyVees spread across eight Midwest states. We can’t list all of their contact info, but fortunately the HyVee website has a quick and easy tool to find contact info of stores near you.

    The Big Picture

For some the concept of open carry can be quite controversial, but regardless of your personal opinions on matter don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. These campaigns to ban open carry in popular grocery stores are just the opening rounds in a much larger and ongoing fight to marginalize all firearms owners.

Anti-gunners, using out-of-touch 1% billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s money, are trying like mad to paint the picture that tens of millions of gun owning Americans are a threat to everyone’s safety. Therefore they must be banned from everyday places such as grocery stores, coffee shops, etc.. We all know that peaceful, law-abiding gun owners live and walk among us every single day with no ill effects. But while we recognize that, it’s important to remember that a very large portion of the population has no idea. Showing them that we gun owners are not what the murderous thugs and bullies Bloomberg drones try to portray us as is absolutely critical.

If you find this information useful in any way, please help the Iowa Firearms Coalition fight to protect and enhance our Second Amendment rights here in Iowa and abroad. We’re an all volunteer organization and we’d love to have you become an official member. You can sign up or make a donation on our membership page.

  • Bloomberg Crew Targeting Iowa Based HyVee Grocery Stores

    October 23, 2015
HyVee grocery stores are the latest target of gun control efforts.

HyVee grocery stores are the latest target of gun control efforts.

The anti-gun Bloomberg crew lead by Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety are continuing their campaign to persecute lawful gun owners. This time it’s at HyVee Grocery Stores.

The West Des Moines, Iowa based company operates more than 235 stores in 8 Midwest states. A very short time ago the gun control zealots opened up a petition specifically targeting HyVee stores and demanding they ban open carry in all HyVee stores.

    HyVee Gun Control Demands

Anti-gunners are demanding that HyVee prohibit law-abiding citizens from exercising their rights.

    Persecuting Shoppers

After realizing they stood no chance of getting their gun control agenda passed at the federal level these anti-gunners, lead by the out of touch billionaire Michael Bloomberg, have been forced to settle for badgering individual businesses. They use startling, and misleading images to scare uneducated shoppers into thinking anyone who carries a gun is a threat. This campaign of ignorance and fear saw a few early successes as some companies caved to their demands. But more recently the anti’s have found it harder and harder to sell their anti-freedom propaganda.

    Kroger Gets It Right

Last year the anti-gunners targeted the Kroger grocery store and all of their subsidiaries. After numerous attempts to try to bully store management into banning the lawful open carry of firearms Moms Demand Action and their siblings at Everytown for Gun Safety fell flat on the faces yet again.

Kroger management carefully weighed the facts, looking beyond the anti-gunners superficial scare campaign. More importantly store management examined the law their customers must adhere to. And you know what they realized? Gun owners aren’t the threat Bloomberg and Co. make them out to be and there was not reason to cave to the anti-gunners.

In the end Kroger held to their principles and declared they would not bow to these demands. Instead they would continue to follow all applicable laws and not dictate to their customers.

Kroger Chief Financial Officer Michael Schlotman made the store’s policy crystal clear on CNBC’s Squawk Box:

“If the local gun laws are to allow open carry, we’ll certainly allow customers to do that based on what the local laws are. We don’t believe it’s up to us to legislate what the local gun control laws should be. It’s up to the local legislators to decide to do that.

So we follow local laws [and] we ask our customers to be respectful to the other people they are shopping with. And we really haven’t had any issues inside of our stores as a result of that.”

The icing on the cake? Despite a high-profile anti-gunner boycott of all things Kroger, the chain of grocery stores actually saw a 21% increase in profits!

    HyVee, how will you respond?

So, HyVee executives, the anti-gunners are setting their sights on you and your stores. Your colleagues at Kroger have set a great example for you. As representatives of hundreds of thousands of peaceful, trained and law-abiding Permit to Carry holders we urge to follow their lead. As Everytown, Moms Demand Action, and Michael Bloomberg’s out of touch billionaire cronies turn up the pressure on you we urge you to look past their superficial scare campaigns.

The rights of your customers are guaranteed by law, constitutional law. And at the end of the day law trumps feelings. But even still, we feel it’s extremely important that you acknowledge all of your customers rights.

    Attention HyVee shoppers

It’s important that you let HyVee know that respecting your rights is an extremely important issue.

We encourage you to contact the HyVee stores you shop — here’s a directory of their stores.

Thank them for recognizing your Second Amendment rights, and politely remind them that as a gun owner and Permit to Carry holder you’ve passed multiple background checks, you’ve been trained, and most importantly you’re a peaceful law-abiding citizen (and there are hundreds of thousands more like you throughout the state). You are not the threat some people try to make you out to be. Then urge them to remember your rights the next time someone tries convincing them that gun owners are a threat to their safety.

Remember to be polite. The anti-gunners work very hard to paint a picture that gun owners are callous thugs and bullies. We need prove them wrong, and the best way of doing that is being polite and respectful while making our case to neutral parties.

If you’re on Facebook you, leave a message on HyVee’s corporate Facebook page.

If you’re on Twitter, tweet them @HyVee

  • Bruce Hunter Attempts to Capitalize on Mass Killing

    October 5, 2015
Representative Bruce Hunter wants to start confiscating Iowan's guns.

Representative Bruce Hunter wants to start confiscating Iowan’s guns.

This should come as no surprise, but an Iowa legislator is already to trying to capitalize on the dead and wounded from the tragedy in Oregon. Des Moines Democrat Bruce Hunter announced Monday that he plans to introduce more gun control legislation once the 2016 legislative session begins in Iowa.

Hunter told WHO-TV that he wants to pass a gun confiscation law, as well as universal background checks in Iowa.

Unfortunately the fact that Representative Hunter seems to have missed is that Oregon’s universal background check system failed to stop that murderous rampage at Umpqua Community College. Nor would they have stopped the on-air murders of Alison Parker and Adam Ward in Roanoke, Virginia. Or the Charleston, South Carolina church shooting, and so on and so on. Time and time again we see these tragically unfortunate incidents and time and time again we learn after the fact that universal background checks would not have stopped the killing. Despite all that gun control zealots like Representative Bruce Hunter refuse to acknowledge that their grand scheme is a non-starter.

The push for gun control in Iowa is nothing new for Hunter. Last year he introduced a trio of bills that would have banned the sale, trade, or transfer of all semi-automatic firearms. He also peddled a bill that would limit magazine capacity to just 10 rounds. And of course he tried unsuccessfully to institute universal background checks. Fortunately the Iowa Firearms Coalition and our allies were able to stop these bills in their tracks.

Hunter’s latest gun control push comes as no surprise. He’s been pushing gun control bills for years and has the language all queued up and ready to be introduced as soon as the legislative session begins. What’s disturbing however is the fact that Representative Hunter has no problem trotting out his plans in the aftermath of a horrible tragedy, yet months before the legislative session begins. It’s no coincidence that Hunter is rolling out this gun control package in the days that follow an unfortunate loss of life. In the words of the rabid gun control advocate Rham Emanuel, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.” Sadly, Representative Bruce Hunter has taken that message to heart and is using innocent lives to advance his personal agenda.

If there is a silver lining to Hunter’s announcement today it’s that he “says he does not immediately plan to propose a gun registry in the state, or outlaw large capacity magazines or so-called ‘Assault weapons.'”

Why thank you Bruce! You’re only going to infringe on our rights a little at a time, how very generous of you! We also appreciate you broadcasting your true intentions rather than hiding real goals like so many of your fellow gun control advocates like to do.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition will be in the capitol building on day one of the 2016 legislative session, and every day there after. We’ll be taking Representative Hunter and his gun confiscation plans head on. If you’re like us and want to see our Second Amendment rights protected and enhanced we invite you to join the IFC. It’s the best way to send a strong message to gun control zealots that their infringements won’t fly here in Iowa.
