• IFC Update – Week 1 – Monumental Start to 2017

    January 15, 2017

    Monumental Start to 2017

    IFC on Offense

Week one of the 2017 legislative session is off to a phenomenal start. On day one our friends in the Iowa Senate introduced Senate Joint Resolution 2 (SJR2), a bill to write your right to keep and bear arms into the Iowa Constitution. Our long-time friends in the Iowa House of Representatives are expected to do the same. The new majority leaders in the Iowa Senate have proclaimed they’re ready to ‘kick the door in’ and introducing our Constitutional Amendment bill on day one is a good sign. Even more exciting, SJR2 has 29 co-sponsors!

We expect a subcommittee hearing on SJR2 to take place next week. At this time we don’t expect any issue with this hearing.

SJR2 is without a doubt the most important piece of pro-gun owner legislation that will be introduced this session. Without this bill all other gun laws and gun bills (Stand Your Ground, Shall Issue, and everything we’ve worked for) in Iowa can easily be wiped out by activist judges on the Iowa Supreme Court or a runaway Iowa legislature. Here’s more detail on why SJR2 trumps all other pro-gun owner bills.

More good news, the first week of the session also brought the introduction of Stand Your Ground, and Permit Privacy bills. Don’t be surprised if you see multiple bills covering the same general topic (Stand Your Ground for instance). IFC will be closely monitoring every one of these bills and will be updating you on which versions are best, which are gaining traction and which bills have the best chance at passage.

Reminder: there are several more IFC backed bills that haven’t been introduced yet. We have our 2017 IFC Priorities list posted on the website. The list is long, it is thorough and we’re certain you’ll like what you see.

Second Amendment Day in the Capitol

    March 7th, 2017

Join IFC and gun owners from around the state in the Iowa Capitol on Tuesday, March 7th. Meet with IFC leaders, tour the capitol, and most importantly take your support for Second Amendment issues directly to Iowa lawmakers. Nothing is more effective than talking to a legislator face-to-face and there’s no better place to do it than right where they work.

Mark your calendars, make your plans, tell your friends and tell your legislators to make sure they’re squared away on our bills because IFC will be in the capitol on March 7th.

    St. Jude Children’s Hospital

When was the last you saw Mom’s Demand Action, or Everytown for Gun Safety do something like this?

IFC is stepping up again this year to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. We’re asking for donations, either financial or in the form of firearms, ammunition or other related materials. All material items will lumped together in lots and raffled off. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s where they treat children with cancer and help find cures for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Last year we raised more than $5,000 for St. Jude’s. This year we’d like to give even more to this great cause. A box of ammo, a firearm, magazines, or just about anything at all will be gladly accepted and appreciated. All we ask is that it’s in good working order if it’s a weapon or firearm. To donate visit www.IowaFC.org/StJude

Finally, your laugh of the day…

…compliments of Everytown for Gun Safety who just proved how little they know about Iowa.

  • Iowa Gun Groups Donate $5,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital

    February 26, 2016

Gun groups doing good in the community.

A coalition of Second Amendment advocates in Iowa recently just donated more than $5,000 dollars to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. A variety of means were used to raise the donation funds. Mitchell Arms and Ammo of Muscatine, Iowa and members of the Iowa Firearm Owners Alliance and the Iowa Firearms Coalition donated cash and merchandise to a general fund. Merchandise was auctioned off or given away as door prizes to donors with all proceeds returning to the general donation fund. The fundraising efforts netted more than $3,350 dollars.

That $3,350 St. Jude donation was funneled through a WLLR Radio telethon fundraiser. The money was put up as cash match for any donations made by WLLR listeners. This more than doubled the impact of the gun owner’s donation to St. Jude. As a donor to the telethon WLLR made the Iowa Firearms Coalition, Mitchell Arms and Ammo and the Iowa Firearm Owners Alliance each “Angels of the Hour” throughout their two-day telethon. This “Angel of the Hour” status meant that WLLR listeners were enlightened with pro Second Amendment messages while listening to their favorite country music and donating to St. Jude’s. Here’s an example:

At the check presentation on Friday, February 26th the collection of gun owners were recognized during a live interview on WLLR.

Fighting for freedom. Fighting for kids.

This donation to St. Jude’s will be used  to advance cures, and prevention, for catastrophic children’s diseases.

All of the donors, organizers, and participants of this fundraiser are pro Second Amendment. It’s no secret that there’s a coordinated, nationwide effort to paint gun owners as callous, racist and selfish people who don’t care for anyone else but themselves. This movement is backed billionaire 1%’ers. But while these anti gunners go out of their way to sling mud at NRA members and anyone who believes in their God-given and constitutionally protected rights, gun owners in Iowa are selflessly donating thousands of dollars to charity and the fight to end childhood cancer.

Think about that for a second. These aren’t “gun nuts” or radicals. These are everyday Iowans, Americans, and just plain old regular citizens, all united by their love of freedom. But also united by a common commitment to their community, and a desire to make the world better in ways that don’t require the shredding of their rights. This kind of behavior is more common than many non-gun owners care to acknowledge. Contrast that with #GunSense groups like Mom’s Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, Iowans for Gun Safety and so on… When was the last time you heard of them donating to anything like St. Jude’s?

The point is simple. Don’t believe the hype and don’t believe the anti gun owner propaganda being pushed by the national media and gun control groups that feed them stories of cold, callous, selfish gun owners.

We are taking a stand for our freedoms. We’re doing good in the community. We’re not stopping.

  • SUCCESS! HyVee Corporate Denies Anti-Gunner’s Demands

    November 26, 2015

    HyVee Denies Gun Control Demands

Hyvee’s corporate office has made it crystal clear, they won’t be banning guns in their chain of grocery stores.

    MAJOR kudos IFC members!!!

We’ve stopped the latest infringement scheme pushed by Everytown for Gun Safety, Mom’s Demand Action, and the rest of the out of touch Bloomberg cronies! They attempted to badger HyVee grocery stores into banning the lawful carry of firearms in their stores but HyVee has now made their company wide position crystal clear!

The Iowa Firearms Coalition was the first to sniff out Everytown’s latest gun ban scheme last month. We immediately alerted our members urging you contact your HyVee stores and tell them to stand tall against the anti-gunner’s demands. You in turn did an absolutely outstanding job of respectfully reminding them that despite what the gun control zealots claim we are not the problem. Criminals, madmen, and radicals are the real threat to HyVee shopper’s safety and disarming law-abiding citizens merely turns us all into potential victims.

Our grassroots outreach campaign proved that the gun control zealots slick-looking misinformation campaigns (funded by the out of touch billionaire Michael Bloomberg) don’t resonate here in Iowa. We salute the decision makers at HyVee who took the time to look past the Everytown/Moms/Bloomberg demands and examine the facts. Thanks also to YOU, our members who took the time to reach out and correspond with the HyVee officials. Your efforts have led to numerous emails like this one:

    Hello IFC Member,

The email correspondence below was forwarded to me for clarification.

Your right to carry a legal weapon in our stores will not be infringed upon, and we have no plans to adopt any blanket policies with respect to signs or other communication with customers.

Whether it’s guns or the price of green beans, we let store directors handle any inquiries or concerns from customers who might be uncomfortable with seeing another customer with a gun.

If you need any other information, feel free to contact me.

    Larry Ballard

    Hy-Vee Communications

It’s always a good idea to acknowledge the good work of others, especially when they stand up to the anti-freedom demands of gun control zealots. So please take a moment to send the folks at HyVee a quick note of appreciation and say thanks to the store managers the next time you are at your local HyVee.

While we’re at it, we need to express our extreme gratitude to the Iowa Firearms Coalition membership. Without your willingness to step up and help, and without your steadfast support of our Second Amendment freedoms billionaires and out-of-state carpetbaggers would walk all over the people of Iowa.

If you’re not a part of the Iowa Firearms Coalition please become a member today. No one does more to protect and serve our Second Amendment rights here in Iowa. If you truly value your right to keep and bear arms, join the thousands who already stand with us.

    THANK YOU!

  • Review & Preview : Week 17 of the Iowa Legislative Session

    May 10, 2015

Men fight for freedom, then they begin to accumulate laws to take it away from themselves.
    -Author unknown

    Week 17 Review

Iowa Firearms Coalition members continue to fight the Senate’s inaction on SF427. We activated a new Advocacy Campaign and continue to call on each and every one of you to keep the pressure on the Senate and the Senate’s leadership. The details on how to do so are outlined below.

    Week 18 Preview

Since this legislative session is already beyond it’s intended length (and the legislators are no longer being paid nor receiving a per diem), both chambers of the Legislature are under increased pressure to wrap things up for the year. At the forefront of our minds should be how we went 2015 to be remembered as it pertains to the expansion of our 2nd Amendment freedoms.

As we have previously mentioned, SF427 continues to remain a viable bill that needs only a final vote in the full Iowa Senate. It continues to enjoy broad bipartisan support and needs only to overcome the obstacle that is Senator Gronstal (D). As the Senate Majority Leader, Gronstal decides what bills will and will not be bought to the floor for debate and a vote. Recognizing that there is very little time left, we must make this week count as we continue to remind the Senate Leadership that we are still here and demand to be heard.

    What You Can Do

As we celebrate Mother’s Day and reflect on everything we are thankful for, it becomes apparent that those things we are most thankful for include the many freedoms we enjoy. But as we ponder those freedoms we must continue to remind ourselves that we gain and maintain freedom through involvement.

Similarly, we lose freedom when we become spectators to the political process and sit on the side-lines hoping for the best. As such, you must ask yourself if you want to be an agent of change that expands freedom, or do you want to be a spectator that watches freedom evaporate from our nation’s vocabulary.

Get involved today! Make one phone call… send one email, and talk to one neighbor. Together, we can make our voices heard that SF427 must receive a vote!

    Email:
Use our newest Advocacy Campaign to quickly and easily email your Senator. Help us send a strong message – ‘Your inaction on SF427 will be considered the same as a “No” vote.’

If you can, copy the body of that message and send an additional email to the Senate leadership as well. Their email addresses are: mike.gronstal@legis.iowa.gov; steve.sodders@legis.iowa.gov; pam.jochum@legis.iowa.gov; joe.bolkcom@legis.iowa.gov

    Call:
The Senate switchboard will open for calls tomorrow (Monday) at 1:00 p.m.

Call them and leave a message – (515)281-3371 – “SF427 deserves a vote! It’s time to do what’s right for the people of Iowa. Stop the games and bring Senate File 427 to floor.”

Ask that the message is delivered to your Senator as well as the Senate leadership.

  • Review & Preview: Week 16 in the Iowa Legislature

    May 3, 2015

Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.
    -Napoleon Bonaparte

    Week 16 Review

The Iowa Senate continues to purposely stall SF427, the Omnibus Gun Bill. There has been no new action on the bill this week.

Iowa Firearms Coalition members are fighting this malicious inaction. We’ve activated a new Advocacy Campaign and are calling on each and every one of you to turn up the pressure on the Senate and the Senate’s leadership.

More details below on how you can do your part to help the cause.

    Week 17 Preview

Right now many of us have more questions than answers with regard to the status of SF427. It is still a viable bill that can be voted on at a moment’s notice IF Senate Majority Leader (D) Mike Gronstal were to allow the democratic process to actually occur.

Our current situation epitomizes everything that’s wrong and broke about our legislative system, and we need your help to get the word out.

When a bill, such as SF427, passes 6 votes, each time with  bipartisan support, often receiving a supermajority vote, you’d think the Senate would recognize that it deserves a vote. When a bill, such as SF427, would protect the privacy more than a quarter million Iowans, you’d think the Senate would give it a fair vote. When a bill, such as SF427, is backed by Iowa’s police agencies, you’d think the Senate would listen to the men and women that keep them safe.

Senator Gronstal and the inner circle that makes up the Senate leadership are purposely blocking this bill from being brought to a vote.

They’re doing this because they’re afraid.

Radical out of state gun control groups have put a lot of pressure on them to kill the Omnibus Gun Bill by any means possible. Undoubtedly there have been promises made about the 2016 elections as well. The Senate leadership is afraid that voting on this bill would mean their members would have to go on record and show their true colors.

They’d rather pander to nanny state billionaires than do their jobs and serve the people of Iowa. They know the Omnibus Gun Bill has the votes to pass, but in order to keep their 1% East Coast sugar daddies happy they’re forced to use ticky-tack procedural methods to kill this bill rather than give it the vote it deserves.

That is the real reason they refuse to bring SF427 to a vote.

    What You Can Do

The time has come for us to hold the Senate Majority Leadership accountable. Rather than continue to make us explain *why* SF427 should receive a vote, it is time for us to require THEM to answer *why not.*

Call them and leave a message – (515)281-3371“SF427 deserves a vote! It’s time to do what’s right for the people of Iowa. Stop the games and bring Senate File 427 to floor.”

Ask that the message is delivered to your Senator as well as the Senate leadership.

    Closing Thoughts

Ask yourself, “Who runs Iowa? Do out-of-state astroturf organizations funded by New York billionaires run Iowa? Or do Iowans run Iowa? Do Iowans want to be told by East Coast gun grabbers how we should live our lives? Or do we want Iowa Legislators to represent IOWA values?”

If Senators Gronstal and Sodders block our other 48 Senators from voting on SF427, they will have single handedly disenfranchised millions of Iowans. We cannot sit idly by and allow this to happen. As a 2nd Amendment advocate, if you have been saving your time and energy to be heard during this legislative session; now is the time! We’ve worked too hard to throw in the towel now.

Call or email your Iowa Senator repeatedly this week and explain that we will not relent on this issue. Tell the Senate leadership we expect them to listen to the people of Iowa, or we will hold the whole Senate accountable at the voting booth in 2016!

  • DO or DIE Time for Iowa’s Omnibus Gun Bill

    May 1, 2015
    Legislative Alert
Do or Die Time for Omnibus Gun Bill – SF427
    New Advocacy Campaign Launched

    Iowans-

We’re getting word the Omnibus Gun Bill is in dire straits. We greatly need your help.

It’s been three full weeks since the Iowa House of Representatives passed SF427, the latest version of the Omnibus Gun Bill. Since then the bill has been waiting for the Iowa Senate to schedule it for a vote. For three full weeks it has sat there, on the Senate leadership’s desk, and they haven’t lifted a finger. Nor will they unless we start making some racket.

IFC needs your help starting right now, and continuing until the final gavel falls. We’ve just activated a brand new Advocacy Campaign telling the Senate Iowans expect them to do their jobs and give this bill a fair vote.

If you can, please copy body of that message and send an additional email to the Senate leadership as well. Their email addresses are: mike.gronstal@legis.iowa.govsteve.sodders@legis.iowa.govpam.jochum@legis.iowa.govjoe.bolkcom@legis.iowa.gov

Tell them the people of Iowa (whom they’ve sworn to serve) expect them to give the Omnibus Gun Bill a fair vote. Most importantly, make sure they know that no action on this bill must be considered the same as them voting ‘No.’

We need you to help us make it very clear, the Senate’s actions (or in actions) in 2015 will not be forgotten during the 2016 elections.

If the Senate allows the Omnibus Gun Bill to die without a vote they’ll have made several points very clear to the people of Iowa.

    • A track record of six massive by bipartisan votes mean nothing to them.
    • The word of Iowa’s law enforcement communities means nothing to them.
    • Protecting the privacy of a quarter million Iowans means nothing to them.
    • Parental rights, and supervised gun safety training mean nothing to them.
    • Stiffer penalties for criminals buying guns illegally means nothing to them.
    • Legalizing suppressors, and restoring lost freedoms means nothing to them.

You’d think any legislator worth their salt would not want to be responsible for blocking of all that. But by now we know full well the Iowa Senate would rather follow its own agenda rather than listen to the people they’ve sworn to serve.

    Please use our Advocacy Campaign.

We need you to contact the Iowa Senate the same way they vote in Chicago; early and often.

We’ve asked for your help a lot this session. But this is when we need it most. This is shaping up to be our final push to get SF427 the vote it deserves. If we do not raise the alarm and make our case right now the Senate leadership will be more than happy to brush our Second Amendment freedoms aside once again.

Please contact your Senator, the Senate leadership, and get your friends and family to do the same. It is do or die time for the Omnibus Gun Bill.

    The final push begins now.

  • Consider the Source: Gun Control Group Releases Skewed Survey

    April 16, 2015
Out of state gun control activists grasping at straws to keep gun control push alive in Iowa.

Methodology and the exact contents of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety poll have (unsurprisingly) not been released.

    Survey Says…

Desperate for attention anti-gunners have released the results of a new poll about gun laws in Iowa.

The poll, paid for by Everytown for Gun Safety, claims that only 8 percent of Iowans oppose universal background checks.  Iowa media have begun circulating the results, you can find a copy of the story on the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier website. Other Everytown survey results include:

34 percent supported and 61 percent opposed weakening the current requirement that Iowans complete a gun safety training course to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon in public places; 72 percent opposed and 25 percent supported removing the age requirement that children be 14 years or older to use handguns when supervised by adults; and 28 percent supported and 68 percent opposed changing current Iowa law to allow the use of firearm silencers.

The results are extrapolations based off of the responses of 703 Iowans who took the phone survey conducted by SurveyUSA.

Not surprisingly the questions participants were asked have not been released, nor have any other details of the poll’s methodology.

No doubt the poll was designed to elicit the most skewed results possible.

    Consider the Source

The poll is funded by the same group that has been making the bogus claim that the Omnibus Gun Bill would “arm domestic abusers and felons.” It’s also the same group that has a flown in a New York City lobbyist to try to persuade the Iowa legislature to kill the Omnibus Gun Bill. Now these out-of-staters are pushing this survey on as many people as possible, hoping to paint a picture that all of Iowa opposes the Omnibus Gun Bill (a fact we all know to be false).

The fact is this group has yet to show their work, or any specifics about the survey, and truth be told we’re not holding our breaths that we’ll ever see that kind of information.

Sadly Everytown for Gun Safety is now getting help from a group of gun owners in Iowa who are also trying to kill the Omnibus Gun Bill. It goes to show anti-gunners come in all shapes and sizes.

The story about the Everytown for Gun Safety poll conveniently omits the fact that this bill would immediately benefit hundreds of thousands of Iowa Permit to Carry holders. These lawful Iowans would no longer have to worry about the threat of the media collecting things like their name, address, date of birth, etc., and publishing it for the whole world to see.

Also missing from the piece is the vital detail that the Iowa law enforcement community wants to see this bill signed into law. The Iowa Police Chiefs Association, the Iowa Peace Officers Association, and the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association all back the Omnibus Gun Bill. A fact that Everytown, Moms Demand Action, the Center for American Progress, and other gun control zealots omit every time this bill is brought up.

Of course telling their followers that the officers that keep you safe think this bill is good for Iowa does not fit their fear based agenda, so this should not be a surprise to anyone.

And finally the reason the anti’s are so desperate to kill this bill is because they know it can pass. It’s got bipartisan support. And it’s not just a couple of Republicans and Democrats back this bill, an OVERWHELMING number of Iowa legislators from both sides of the aisle want to see the Omnibus Gun Bill signed into law. All it needs is to pass one more vote before going to Governor Branstad’s desk. This is precisely why anti-gun groups and now so-called no-compromise groups are working together to try to kill this bill, they know that despite their skewed polls, our side has virtually everything we need to get this bill passed.

  • BEWARE the anti-gunner’s new best friend in Iowa.

    April 14, 2015

    Vital Update:
New Lies Being Spread About Omnibus Gun Bill
    Please share this message!

We’ve seen a lot of out-of-state anti-gun groups attack the Omnibus Gun Bill this year, and while that should be no surprise, we’re now seeing this bill come under attack from a handful of all or nothing “pro-gun” Iowans.

To review here’s who we’ve been fighting all year-long:

    Everytown for Gun Safety.
    Moms Demand Action.
    The Center for American Progress.
    Americans for Responsible Solutions.
Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
    And more.
They are all big money, national level gun control groups run by the likes of Michael Bloomberg, Gabby Giffords, the Brady Campaign as well as others. And they’re all united and actively working against Iowa’s Omnibus Gun Bill. Now, these hardcore gun control zealots have a new friend and ally from right here in Iowa.A group of self-purported “gun owners” from here in Iowa are actively campaigning against this bill, and the many vital improvements it would make to the lives and rights of Iowa’s gun owners. This group has a track record of killing pro gun bills, and they have never gotten a single piece of legislation signed into law. What’s worse, they’ve adopted the gun-grabber’s model of using lies, half-truths, and deleting factual comments in order to keep well-meaning Second Amendment advocates confused and in the dark. Their behavior is shameful, and is once again doing more harm than good. This group is now standing shoulder to shoulder with Bloomberg & Company’s lobbyists fighting to stop the Omnibus Gun Bill from making any progress. They may have different reasons, but these groups are now both united in the same anti-gun owner cause: killing the Omnibus Gun Bill and all the benefits it would bring to Iowans.

We all knew all along the anti-gunners would resort to tricks and deceit, but to see another self-proclaimed “pro-gun” group from here in Iowa join forces with them is a surprise to many. But for many of us who follow this issue closely this is no surprise at all because this isn’t the first time this has happened.

This same group actively lobbied against the Shall Issue concealed carry reforms we passed 5 years ago. If they had their way we’d still be holding out for a “perfect firearms bill” that never had a chance at passing. Had they been successful hundreds of thousands of Iowans would not be able enjoy the freedom to lawfully carry concealed weapons that we enjoy today. Instead of working to protect and enhance the Second Amendment rights of Iowans by any means possible, this group of gun owners would rather gamble everything on improbable, all or nothing, high stakes bills. This approach is almost always guaranteed to fail and their track record proves it. Not one single piece of pro-gun legislation they’ve sponsored has ever reached the Governor’s desk, let alone been signed into law.

Now they’re up to their same old tricks, working again in lock step with Bloomberg and Company, this time to kill Iowa’s Omnibus Gun Bill.

Very briefly let’s review everything these anti-gun owners are now working against:

    1.      Legalizing suppressors.2.      Creating new and streamlined training requirements for renewal Permit’s to Carry and moves the time between training from 5 years to 10 years.3.      Allowing for a renewal applicant to renew their permit under any of the current training requirements including shooting on a range if they so choose.4.      Establishing that a veteran with small arms training will never have to go through initial or renewal training to obtain their permit to carry.5.      Extending the window for qualifying training from the current 12 months now to 24 months. Meaning that if an applicant has had any qualifying training in the last 24 months that will qualify them for their new or renewal permit.

    6.      Creating a requirement for uniform permits throughout the state and establishes that all permits, carry and acquire, shall NOT be issued for a particular weapon nor can it contain any identifying information about the weapon including the make, model, serial number or any ammo used in the firearm. It also says applicants residence must not be listed on the permit and prohibits the inclusion of their social security number.

    7.      Extending the Permit to Acquire from a 1 year permit to a 5 year permit. This matches it up with the Permit to Carry which is also a 5 year permit.

    8.      Adding new language that if a permit is denied and it is later determined that it should not have been that the applicant can recoup reasonable attorney’s fees.

    9.   Removing the absurd ban on parents being able to teach their child proper handgun safety if the child is under the age of fourteen.

    10.   Establishing a statewide verification system for law enforcement to determine if a permit is valid. There is no new database, all permits are already on file with the state and have been for years. This system merely creates a process by which law enforcement can verify the validity of a Permit to Carry. This benefits you by preventing law enforcement from having to seize your weapon if you unintentionally forget your permit.

    11. Blocking the media from collecting the private information (name, date of birth, address, etc.) of Iowa’ permit holders. Current law allows for any member of the public to request to see all of your personal information on your permit application. Under the new provision if they make the request they will only be given a yes or no answer as to whether your permit is valid and the validity dates of such a permit. The person making the request must also give their name, contact information and the reason they are making the request. This information will be kept on file in the sheriff’s office and be accessible to those who wish to inquire if someone has been asking about their permit.

Anyone that opposes the Omnibus Gun Bill opposes all of these measures. Anyone that works against this bill is saying they are against family rights, improving Iowa’s Permit to Carry system, gun safety training for kids, stopping the mass media from publishing interactive maps to permit holders, veterans rights, legalizing suppressors and more.It makes no difference what their reasons are, if anyone opposes the Omnibus Gun Bill they’re effectively saying they’re in favor of keeping things in Iowa the way they are. Whether it’s because they want to take away your rights, or because they’re too idealistic and waiting for the perfect bill, the end result is all the same. Iowans get nothing but more of the same.Fortunately through our talks with multiple key legislators we’ve learned that all of these anti-gunners efforts have amounted to little more than a bunch of hot air. As of right now the Omnibus Gun Bill still has the votes to pass, and we’re working overtime to keep it that way. However, all of this highlights the fact that the lawmaking process is not pretty and it’s far from ideal. If you sit around waiting for our legislative system to create and pass a perfect pro-gun bill you’re going to be waiting until the end of time. The Omnibus Gun Bill is not perfect, there’s a lot of things we’d like to see added. But what is most important is that this bill improves the Second Amendment rights of Iowans and it’s capable of being passed right now.

We cannot let the quest for perfection stand in the way of making vital improvements right now.

P.S – It’s unfortunate that in addition to having to square off with national anti-gun groups, we now find the Omnibus Gun Bill coming under attack from deceitful forces within our own camp. It’s almost unbelievable seeing misguided gun owners working with gun grabbers to kill this bill. But at the end of the day we’re committed 100% to protecting and enhancing the Second Amendment rights of Iowans, and that means we’ll take on anyone that seeks to block our efforts.

Whether you’re a billionaire nanny state 1%’er, or a crooked sleazy lobbyist who’s been caught bribing Iowa politicians, it makes no difference to us, we’ll continue to do what we do better than anyone else, and that’s protect and enhance the Second Amendment rights of all Iowans.

House Passes Omnibus Gun Bill – AGAIN
    Senate Now Gets A Do-Over

    Week 13 recap:

Just as expected last week the Iowa House of Representatives passed the Senate File 427, with an amendment restoring the Omnibus Gun Bill, by an extremely wide margin – 73 to 25.
Here’s the list of House members who voted FOR and AGAINST the Omnibus Gun Bill (SF427). The bill now goes back to the Senate where it needs to be scheduled and voted on by the whole Senate. A complete review of the House vote can be found on the website – IowaFC.org.

What you need to know for week 14:

This week the Iowa Legislature will be very busy addressing education funding issues. There are school funding deadlines this week that must be met. What this means is the Iowa House and Senate will likely be wrapped up in education issues and the odds of the Omnibus Gun Bill making any formal progress this week are slim.

    This changes nothing.

We continue to work extremely hard both publicly and privately to get this bill the vote it deserves. We bring up this education issue so that you know exactly what is happening and aren’t caught off guard or become disheartened as the week goes on without much movement.

What you can do right now:

Normally we try to provide you some sort of ‘call to action’ or direction on how you can help convince the legislature to move this bill forward. This week we find ourselves in a somewhat unique situation…

The bill has the votes to pass if/when it gets called to the Senate floor. You have done an extraordinary job of educating Iowa’s lawmakers about the Omnibus Gun Bill, it’s been impossible for them to ignore this issue.

But this week we need to you to shift your focus away from the legislature and over to the people of Iowa. We need you to spread the word about the plight of the Omnibus Gun Bill thus far.

Tell your friends and family about the bill and the good it does for Iowans.
Tell them how it’s supported by the Iowa Firearms Coalition, but also the National Rifle Association, AND Iowa’s law enforcement communities.
Tell them how it’s already passed six votes with ease – each time with Republicans AND Democrats voting in favor of it.
But most importantly tell them how the Iowa Senate leadership has purposely ignored all of this. How a small minority of anti-gun Senators have used their positions to purposely stall the Omnibus Gun Bill, and how in the 11th hour when they could stall no longer they tried to cherry pick only the parts they wanted from the bill and then tell us it’s not their fault they did all this.

We have the votes to pass the Omnibus Gun Bill. But regardless of whether it comes to a vote or not this message needs to get out.

We’ve created a couple of videos to help you show the facts about this bill. Please feel free to share these with anyone who may be misinformed about the Omnibus Gun Bill. Right now, more than anything else we need the people of Iowa to know the truth about this bill and the way it’s been handled thus far in the Iowa Senate.

Of course we’ll be emailing you if there’s any critical updates. If you’re looking for more information we’re posting regular updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as our website IowaFC.org throughout the week.

  • House Passes Omnibus Gun Bill, AGAIN. Senate To Get A Mulligan.

    April 8, 2015
73-25 – Iowa House of Representatives Passes Omnibus Gun Bill – AGAIN!
All Eyes Now On The Iowa Senate Leadership

Once again the Iowa House of Representatives has proven the Omnibus Gun Bill enjoys wide support from both Republicans and Democrats. Today it passed yet another vote, this time it was 73 votes in favor to just 25 against. We’ll be sharing the breakdown of who voted for against the bill on our website as soon that information is made available.

Senate File 427, the latest version of the Omnibus Gun Bill now goes back to the Senate. The Senate has essentially been given a do-over. They now have a very rare opportunity to pass a solid pro-Second Amendment bill for a second time this session. The entire Senate must vote on whether or not to approve of the Omnibus Gun Bill language that passed the House today. If the Senate approves it, the bill then goes to Governor Terry Branstad’s desk to be signed into law, but first thing’s first, the Senate leadership has to schedule SF427 for a vote.

In a sense we find ourselves in familiar territory, waiting for the Senate leadership to bring a gun bill to a vote. Once again we’d caution you to take everything the media says with a grain of salt. Reports are already circulating that SF427 is all but dead. We’ve heard the media say this before, and we’ve proven them wrong – more than once. The Senate leadership has said they’d like to pass a “pro-gun” bill this session, they monkeyed around with the Omnibus Gun Bill earlier and it came back to bite them. Now they’ve been given a rare second chance to listen to the people of Iowa and live up to their word about wanting to pass a pro-gun owner bill. Time will tell what their true intentions are.

As it stands right now the earliest the Senate could take up SF427 is next Monday. We also know that there are other non-Second Amendment issues the Senate is dealing with (most notably mandatory deadlines for education funding). Because of this we believe it may be a week and a half to two weeks before we see any public movement on the Omnibus Gun Bill.

Do not lose sight of the fact that we still have the votes to get this bill passed. We still have support of the people of Iowa, and the support of Iowa’s law enforcement community. What we need is for the Senate leadership to take a long hard look at these facts and reflect on who they’re in Des Moines to serve, the people of Iowa or their own personal prejudices.

For now we need you to remain patient. Our volunteer lobbyists continue to work daily to get the Omnibus Gun Bill the vote it deserves. Right now they’re telling us they need time to do their thing and as soon as it’s time to turn up the pressure on the Senate they’ll put out the signal and we’ll relay the message that it’s time to go to work. We’ve had a few bumps in the road recently, but we’re still sitting in a very good spot (this is politics after all, and things rarely ever go smoothly).

Standby for more updates. Take all media reports about the Omnibus Gun Bill with a grain of salt. And for now stand ready to do more work when the appropriate time comes.
