Iowa has a big problem: 44 of 50 states have provisions in their state constitutions that protect their citizens’ Right to Keep and Bear Arms (AKA the Second Amendment). Iowa is not one of them.

Add the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to the Iowa Constitution!

The Iowa Constitution currently lacks any provision that protects an Iowa resident's Right to Keep and Bear Arms (RKBA). Forty-four of fifty U.S. states have protections written into their state constitution that protect their citizen's Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Iowa is not one of these states.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition and it's members across the state believe the People of Iowa need and deserve to have their natural, God-given right to keep and bear arms encoded within the State of Iowa's Constitution. As such we're proposing an amendment to the Iowa constitution.

To avoid confusion over phrases such "well regulated militia" the proposed RKBA amendment shall be written in a clear, modern and legally binding manner to include all people of Iowa regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information or military status.

Furthermore the amendment shall be written in such a manner that a citizen's right to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer and use arms shall not be infringed. Mandatory licensing, registration and/or special taxation related to exercising this right shall be prohibited.

Any effort to place additional restrictions on Iowans' right to keep and bear arms shall considered under the strictest scrutiny possible.
Stand Your Ground, Constitutional Carry, Concealed Carry, Open Carry, the freedom to simply own a firearm in Iowa - all of these issues hinge on having your right to keep and bear arms clearly defined in the Iowa Constitution.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition believes Iowans deserve to have their natural, fundamental right to keep and bear arms encoded within the State of Iowa’s Constitution. As such we’re proposing an amendment to the Iowa constitution.

IFC’s proposed RKBA amendment will be written in clear, modern language, and will protect a law-abiding citizen’s right to acquire, have, transfer, and use arms without infringement.  Furthermore, any future effort to place additional restrictions (including taxes) on Iowans’ right to keep and bear arms will considered under the strictest scrutiny in court.

Stand Your Ground, Constitutional Carry, Concealed Carry, Open Carry, the freedom to simply own a gun in Iowa — ALL of these issues require that your Right to Keep and Bear Arms is written in the state constitution.
