Congratulations to Cherokee County on becoming the 31st County to reaffirm that the right to keep and bear arms belongs to the citizens and shall not be infringed. Secondly, thank you to the Supervisors and Sheriff for putting the inalienable rights of your citizens before the beliefs of the current federal administration or any future government overreach. As we inch closer to Iowa having one third of the counties proclaiming their rights, we must reiterate that in order for this measure to pass there must be support for it within the community. There is a lot of leg work involved, and it takes a strong willed resident of the county to put 2A Sanctuary on the agenda and rally the support. IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF CHEROKEE COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution, unanimously, on Monday to make their community a Second Amendment Sanctuary County, the first county in Iowa to do so in 2022. With the move, they became the 31st county in Iowa to pass such a resolution in the past few months.
“2022 is off to a great start thanks to this important move by the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “Among our goals this legislative session in Iowa is to make all of Iowa a Second Amendment Sanctuary and this is yet another positive step forward in this effort.”
The IFC has been working with state and local elected officials to protect the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms in the wake of threats by some in Washington, D.C. to support actions which would infringe upon the Second Amendment.
Iowa’s Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties, so far, also include: Mitchell, Chickasaw, Pocahontas, Hardin, Carroll, Jasper, Cedar, Washington, Madison, Mills, Adams, Clarke, Humboldt, Kossuth, Ringgold, Buchanan, Van Buren, Winnebago, Decatur, Dallas, Guthrie, Benton, Page, Lucas, Taylor, Union, Hancock, Buena Vista, Pottawattamie and Wayne.
