Guthrie County, Iowa Becomes 20th Second Amendment Sanctuary County!
IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF GUTHRIE COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS
The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday to make their county Iowa’s 20th Second Amendment Sanctuary. The vote was a unanimous 4-0, with one of the Supervisors not present.
The Dallas County Board of Supervisors also voted today, unanimously, to make their county a Second Amendment Sanctuary. There are now 21 Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties in Iowa.
“With now 21 Second Amendment Sanctuaries across the state of Iowa, local elected leaders have sent a clear message to Des Moines and Washington, D.C. that Constitutional infringements have no place in the Hawkeye State,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “We would like to thank the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors for standing up for the civil rights of those they serve and we are hopeful Governor Kim Reynolds will soon make the whole state a Second Amendment Sanctuary by issuing a proclamation.”
While Second Amendment Sanctuary legislation at the county level does not supersede federal law, it does prevent local resources from being used to enforce measures that are at odds with the U.S. Constitution.
The IFC has been working with state and local elected officials to protect the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms in the wake of threats by some in Washington, D.C. to support actions which would infringe upon the Second Amendment.
Iowa’s Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties, so far, also include: Mitchell, Chickasaw, Pocahontas, Hardin, Carroll, Jasper, Cedar, Washington, Madison, Mills, Adams, Clarke, Humboldt, Kossuth, Ringgold, Buchanan, Van Buren, Winnebago and Wayne.
Hancock and Guthrie counties’ supervisors are expected to vote on their own Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions next week.
