Hi guys! I am planning a 2017 machine gun tour. I have my own registered NFA weapons, and I take them to Machine Gun shoots such as Knob Creek in Northern KY. I see that you have a big shoot as well and I was wondering if you could send me some info on the 2017 schedule. I really like shooting my weapons in sub-gun and machine gun competitions if possible, but let me know what you’ve got going on in 2017. Thanks!
People to check with:
Jerry’s Machine Guns in Plymouth, Iowa
Tactical Creations in Vinton, Iowa (he and Jerry work often work as a team)
Midwest Shooting in Hiawatha, Iowa (they just had fully automatic SAW + SCAR17 + P90 for a public event last weekend, courtesy of FN, at their indoor range)
All three are in the style of pay $20 bucks or so for a quickie session with what they have for you, and then it’s the next customer’s turn. Namely, these are get-acquainted sessions and not competitions, but if you want to try something new, the above are good people in eastern Iowa to talk to. You could also contact Iowa Gun Owners and Iowa Firearms Coalition to see what they know from central Iowa. They are political lobbying groups and not gun range groups, but would be a good place to start.
If you want to bring your own gun, check first with Jerry’s Machine Guns in Plymouth or with Tactical Creations in Vinton. I doubt they would let you do special projects at this advertised event, since it is a high-volume fast-moving operation and they likely won’t have time to custom cater to every preference. But if you make a special appointment ahead of time with JMG or TC (like maybe for before, after, or another day) they might be able to work you in for special circumstances. I am supposing, and am not anybody’s spokesman. I would also suppose that if you take up some pro time for a special project, it would likely be at some hourly rate since these guys have to eat too, and ammo costs $$$ to everyone. The shooting range is at a private farm range which gets rented out, and that owner is another third party who definitely does have his hourly rates. If the 2016 event is like 2015, all you will have time for is ‘shut up and shoot, next customer’ [my wording] since they have hundreds of guys to run through the mill and more hundreds coming in back of you. The heads of both JMG and TC are both great guys, but you will see when you are at the event they are running themselves ragged for hours and hours at a time, just trying to avoid getting drowned by the as-is customer demand– for everybody just to shoot a little while at the standard set-ups they already have going. So, my guess is that finessed custom tailoring will require extra planning and extra dollars on your part.
Fantastic, can we bring a gun to test, too?
Get there early, or there will likely be about a thousand people ahead of you. Once you try it, you’ll see why.
