Bank Robbery Suspect Walks Away from Scene of Crime and Remains on the Loose

Shellsburg, Iowa is located Northwest of Cedar Rapids about halfway to Vinton.

Numerous law enforcement agencies including the FBI are searching for white male who robbed a bank in Shellsburg, Iowa early this afternoon.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety a white male wearing glasses and a fake purple beard pulled a gun on a Wells Fargo bank employee just after 2 o’clock this afternoon.

No one was hurt, but the suspect has managed to elude police since the bank robbery.

Shellsburg, IOWA — On March 11, 2015, at approximately 2:08 PM, Benton County Communication Center received a 911 call from employees of the Wells Fargo bank in Shellsburg, Iowa. The tellers reported a white male entered into their bank, brandished a black handgun and demanded money. No one in the bank was injured.  The suspect was last seen walking in an easterly direction on Jones Street.   The suspect is described as:

  • White Male
  • Approximately 5’4”
  • Approximately age:  late 20’s early 30’s
  • Wearing
    • black calf-length trench coat
    • black jeans
    • blue baseball style cap, with white lettering on the front
    • black-framed glasses
    • fake purple beard with white elastic straps

Anyone with knowledge of the identity of the aforementioned individual is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at 319-472-2337.
