Hillary Flip Flop

Hillary #GunSense Clinton

Hillary Clinton wants so desperately to be this country’s gun control top dog. For months she’s been clamoring to point out how badly she wants “common sense” gun control measures, including Australia style gun confiscations. But why is Hillary on such a fervent gun control kick? Well, it all traces back to a single source: a socialist from Vermont.

A year ago Hillary was looking at clear skies and smooth sailing all the way to receiving the Democratic Party’s nomination for president. Then Senator Bernie Sanders threw his hat in the ring. Sanders, a self admitted socialist is further to the left on the political spectrum than Hillary in just about every conceivable way.

Initially Sanders wasn’t a concern for Hillary. Just an eccentric socialist with kooky hair. But when progressives in the party’s base started ‘feeling the Bern’ and abandoning the Good Ship Hillary, the former Secretary of State had to start scrambling. She had to find a way to prove herself to the left-wing activists within the party. Her coronation suddenly didn’t appear to be such a sure thing. Hillary had to find something, anything, where she could be more radical than the socialist Sanders. She was not about to cut ties with her Wall Street sugar-daddies but the gun topic was one area where there was some light between the two of them. So Hillary decided that for the good of her campaign gun control would have to become a bigger priority. Not because Hillary cares about gun control. It’s because it’ll help her score political points and win the Democratic party’s presidential nomination.

’08 Hillary vs. ’16 Hillary

Yesterday, the day before the 2016 Iowa Caucuses Hillary went out of her way to once again bring up gun control. She brought up the NRA/Iowa Firearms Coalition measure, the Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act. A bill that would remove Iowa’s archaic ban on supervised youth handgun shooting. Under Iowa law your son or daughter can learn to shoot any shotgun or rifle there is, including those evil AR15s and AK47s everyone fears, but the second a parent lets them handle a handgun they’re committing a criminal act.

Here’s what Hillary had to say about parents being free to teach their kids to shoot a handgun:

Clinton grew animated when talking about how the NRA is interested in “lowering the age from 14 to let more children legally have guns. What kind of debate is that? I have heard about what happens to children…finding that loaded gun. I’ve heard the stories, I’ve seen the news reports, about the ones who are killed.”

Flashing anger, Clinton yelled, “What is wrong with us!”

First off, Hillary conveniently left out several important facts about Iowa’s Youth Safety and Parental Rights Act. Namely that this bill is not about letting kids have guns as Hillary claims, it’s about teaching kids at an early age to respect firearms and how to behave around these items. It’s about allowing parents to address their children’s natural curiosity. That way if they do find a loaded gun they’re not curious and tempted to play with it putting themselves or those around them in danger.

Setting aside Hillary’s gross mischaracterization of this bill, her comments Sunday were a direct contradiction to her very own words on the campaign trail.

Back in 2008, during a different presidential campaign Hillary was running against then Senator Barack Obama. Back then Hillary went out of her way to try to show her appreciation for parents teaching kids to shoot. She even went so far as to tell glowing stories about her childhood and time spent behind the family cottage learning to shoot with dad. Here’s how Hillary learned to shoot:

“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said.

“You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It’s part of culture. It’s part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it’s an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter.”

Flip-flip: Achieved

If that’s not a complete flip-flop, we don’t know what is.

The #GunSense crowd will never admit it publicly, but by now Hillary’s gun control push is nothing more than a well documented case of political pandering. She’s desperate to do whatever she can score political points. In this case it’s pushing for more gun control. But if it weren’t for Bernie Sanders she’d probably still be talking about all of her fond memories of shooting with dad on the shores of Lake Winola.

We’re not buying your charade Hillary, and judging by your shrinking polling numbers, neither are plenty of Iowans.
