IFC Chair John McLaughlin shows us the basics of what makes a decent holster for daily conceal carry or classes on the range. In teaching nearly 2,000 students over the years, John has watched what works, what fails, and more importantly, what is downright dangerous. He recommends a Kydex holster that offers 100% protection of the trigger, will retain the firearm while running or fighting and does not collapse on itself after the firearm has been removed. John recommends holsters by PHSTLER, KSG Armory, Henry Holsters, and Dark Star Gear. He is a strong proponent of metal “DCC” clips or soft loops after seeing plastic belt clips break off of holsters. He adds that holsters that come packaged with a firearm are not robust enough for daily conceal carry. Let us know in the comments below what has worked well for you or share stories of holsters that failed you on the range or in real life.
