DNR Finalizes Location of Townhalls for Crucial Hunting, Trapping, and Rule Changes

The Iowa Firearms Coalition consists of many avid hunters, just as much as we put value in the ethical harvest of game, we put value in sharing the most up to date information regarding the DNR. The following is a very important list of events we would like to encourage our members and followers to attend.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting and trapping seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting and trapping rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested.

On the Move – Employee Privacy Act

IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF EMPLOYEE PRIVACY ACT BILL ON THE MOVE

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Employee Privacy Act, SF2143, a bill that seeks to end the de facto ban on self-defense carrying of a firearm in Iowa, was approved by the Iowa Senate Labor and Business Relations Committee at Wednesday’s meeting. The bill being on the moved is a testament to the support Iowa Legislators have for Iowa Firearms Coalition.

The bill, which has been promoted by the Iowa Firearms Coalition, would allow Iowans to secure their firearms in their private vehicles, even when parked at their place of employment.

“Iowa employers can and are threatening to fire their staff over something as innocent as a weapon locked and properly stowed in their vehicle,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “This vote moves Iowa one step closer towards protecting the civil rights of Iowans, and we are grateful to the legislators who have voted in favor of it.”

It is the strong belief of the Iowa Firearms Coalition that no employer should be able to harm the livelihood and wellbeing of their employees because they have chosen to keep legal items in their vehicle and exercise their rights under the Constitution of the United States. The Iowa Legislature is expected to vote on the final bill later this session, we will continue to be the leading group to keep you informed. Thanks for your support, for those who haven’t heard, Iowa Firearms Coalition has partnered with Firearms Legal Protection to give Iowan’s the best fighting chance in the rare case you have to defend your life with lethal force. Muscatine Co is now Iowa’s 34th 2A Sanctuary

IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF MUSCATINE COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution, unanimously, on Monday to make their community Iowa’s 34th Second Amendment Sanctuary County.

“We are thrilled to see that Supervisors in one of the Quad Cities area’s largest counties have voted with one voice to uphold the rights of their constituents,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “We would like to thank the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors for taking this important step forward towards making all of Iowa a Second Amendment Sanctuary.”

Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions at the county level do not supersede federal law but they do prevent local resources from being used to assist the federal government in efforts that violate the Second Amendment.

The IFC has been working with state and local elected officials to protect the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms in the wake of threats by some in Washington, D.C. to support actions which would infringe upon the Second Amendment.

Iowa’s Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties, so far, also include: Mitchell, Chickasaw, Pocahontas, Hardin, Carroll, Jasper, Cedar, Washington, Madison, Mills, Adams, Clarke, Humboldt, Kossuth, Ringgold, Buchanan, Van Buren, Winnebago, Decatur, Dallas, Guthrie, Benton, Page, Lucas, Taylor, Union, Hancock, Buena Vista, Pottawattamie, Cherokee, Montgomery, Fremont and Wayne.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition, an affiliate of both the NRA and the NSSF, is a 501(c4) nonprofit and is Iowa’s only effective pro-Second Amendment rights organization.

IFC Ally NSSF Promotes Partner with a Payer Program

IFC Ally NSSF Promotes Partner with a Payer Program

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is a strong ally of Iowa Firearm’s Coalition. One of the many items they’ve fought alongside us for is the Firearms Industry Protection Act [HF621],  An act establishing which actions may be brought against firearm, firearm accessory, and ammunition manufacturers, distributors, importers, trade associations, or dealers.

Another place you are sure to have heard of NSSF from is Shot Show. They are the owners and sponsors of Shot Show, the largest [S]hooting, [H]unting and [O]utdoor [T]radeshow. It is the largest event of it’s type and is restricted to members of the industry, good luck getting on the list. It’s the place to be if you’re looking to make a splash in the firearms, hunting, or tactical industry.

The NSSF has just published their 3rd video in the series of ‘Partner with a Payer’ highlighting longstanding conservation partnerships with industries, stage agencies, and USFWS. The video can be found below.

Along with the video, NSSF put out a well written article detailing what the ‘Partner with a Payer’ program is, which is linked below.

A short except from their article you can find below:
NSSF participates in the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s “Partner with a Payer” initiative in order to strengthen ties between all excise tax-paying manufacturers—firearms and ammunition, archery equipment, marine and sportfishing equipment—and the state agencies that use these funds to conserve wildlife and habitats through the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration program of USFWS.

Since 1937 when the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act was enacted (today better known as the Pittman-Robertson Act), the manufacturers of firearms, ammunition and archery equipment have been part of a network consisting of sportsmen and women, state fish and wildlife agencies and USFWS to collect and distribute excise taxes—some $14 billion during this period—on their products for the benefit of wildlife conservation, hunter education and shooting ranges. Mentioning that 776 ranges have been either built or enhanced using these funds since 2014, Cliff Schleusner, Southwest Regional Manager, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service credits manufacturers as the cornerstone of this model.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition is proud to consider the National Shooting Sports Foundation a strong ally in the fight for freedom here in Iowa. For a list of victories for IFC to include bills we defeated please click Victories.

Cherokee is 31st 2A Sanctuary

Cherokee is 31st 2A Sanctuary

Congratulations to Cherokee County on becoming the 31st County to reaffirm that the right to keep and bear arms belongs to the citizens and shall not be infringed. Secondly, thank you to the Supervisors and Sheriff for putting the inalienable rights of your citizens before the beliefs of the current federal administration or any future government overreach. As we inch closer to Iowa having one third of the counties proclaiming their rights, we must reiterate that in order for this measure to pass there must be support for it within the community. There is a lot of leg work involved, and it takes a strong willed resident of the county to put 2A Sanctuary on the agenda and rally the support.
