I just read about this on the NRA-ILA site. Trudeau’s Government Seeks Private Sector “Collection Agents” for Gun Confiscation, was the title. Apparently, Canada’s Prog Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is polling the private sector for interest in the confiscation of weapons from their fellow citizens. After all, Trudeau banned all kinds of weapons you and I use daily, and now he is trying to figure out the best way to take them from Canadians.
What kind of world do we live in these days? The Gestapo and Russia did a great job of turning their citizens against one another in the recent 100 years. Both regimes incentivized and pushed spying on one another as a means of basic survival. People who spied on neighbors were awarded for their acts. Unfortunately, that wasn’t universal. It turns out, many of the neighborhood spies were considered suspect by virtue of their desire to drop a dime on others, which usually led to their time in labor camps or the gulag as well as the people they informed upon. And, with no surprise good portions of the claims the spies made were false – spies just wanted to get somebody picked up instead of getting picked up themselves.
Dog eat dog… What a culture government’s thoughts and actions like this create… #sigh
I’m not sure why government opts to outsource their dirty work so often. Maybe they think it’ll be more likely to be carried out by people who opted into the work/contract. Or maybe they’re concerned sworn enforcement won’t do the work, as they know it is wrong. Or maybe this is a way of dangling money to toss your neighbor under the bus – this is commonly referred to as “greed” by any other name. Of this, I’m not sure.
What I can be sure of: taking from others property and possessions is wholely unethical and immoral. If you do this, you’re a thief. And if you do this backed by the power of government, you’re a thief and an oppressor.
Are you willing to be a thief? What about an oppressor? Trudeau is fishing for Canadians that wish to be both. And I find that both arrogant and disgusting. As should you. What you see going on to the North will come to your doorstep sooner than you may think. Some would argue we’re already there. Think about this concept.

I don’t know the answer to my blog title. But, I found myself having several questions about the idea of a game warden waltzing around on my property, putting up game cams, and retrieving data, all without my knowledge. I recently read an article by Kristen Schmitt, titled, “Can Game Wardens Hang Trail Cameras on Your Private Property?” on the Outdoor Life site… You should go read it. I believe she did a great job of outlining concerns I hadn’t yet pondered. Some Pennsylvania hunt clubs sued the Pennsylvania Game Commission (their version of Iowa DNR) over this practice while ignoring “No Trespass” signs.
I also found it interesting that the premise for this routine trespass, essentially ignoring the 4th Amendment, onto private property stems from the “Open Field Doctrine” that permits law enforcement to monitor private property in this realm. Specifically, from Hester v United States, “warrantless search of the area outside a property owner’s curtilage” does not violate the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. IE, ‘curtilage’ being an outdoor/outside area. Some are taking this to read, that they can tromp around your place as long as they don’t go inside your house. Granted, what I’ve offered is a simplistic view of the scenario, but… I, personally, have fundamental problems with the idea the Open Field Doctrine is now used to trespass on land I paid for, and for which I’m responsible.
Apparently, there are only 6 states in the nation that do not honor the “Open Field Doctrine” and keep the state and federal officers off private land. You guessed it. Iowa isn’t among the states that embrace privacy.
This begs two questions. 1, What practices have we experienced in Iowa with this, if any? 2, Should a bill be drawn up that disavows the practices in the “Open Field Doctrine” here in Iowa?
This case in Pennsylvania should be watched closely, just as Kristen’s ARTICLE says. And regardless of the outcome, we should ponder the two questions above. After all, how hard is it to ask for permission to put up a trail cam? And why does the government believe they need access to property that is mine without my knowledge or permission? There is a word for that in other circles, and it isn’t synonymous with virtue…

In today’s Warrior Wednesday, John McLaughlin continues his discussion from last week on less than lethal self-defense, including Tasers, Stun Guns, Collapsible Batons, and Pepper Spray. John’s opinions on defensive tools are his own and do not imply an endorsement for any particular brand or method by the Iowa Firearms Coalition. We encourage all law-abiding Iowans to take not just firearms training but engage in classwork covering less than lethal options, managing unknown contacts, and verbal de-escalation. Today’s video includes actual footage of law enforcement defensive encounters where lethal force was required after non-lethal options failed.
IFC Chair John McLaughlin says if your pepper spray is more than a year or two old, throw it away! Even though most pepper sprays have a shelf life of up to four years, real-life testing shows you don’t want to stake your life on an aging product. The propellant evaporates and valves can start to go bad in just 24 months. McLaughlin is a certified OC/Pepper spray instructor through Agile Training and Consulting.
