This week on Warrior Wednesday join us as Iowa Firearms Coalition Chairman John McLaughlin invites Lt. Colonel David Grossman for a conversation.
Author and researcher Lt. Col. David Grossman (US Army Ret.) offers his thoughts on the increase of violent crime in the U.S. and theorizes that the actual murder rate is being held down because of improvements in emergency medical care and law enforcement officers carrying tourniquets. Grossman believes violence against police will continue due to the “defund the police movement” and media bias against law enforcement in Hollywood movies and television programs.
On Iowa’s 175th birthday, Pottawattamie County became the states 30th county to pass a resolution declaring itself a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. Pott County joins a long list of counties who have recognized the freedom that is the right to bear arms. Our next two counties to keep an eye on are Cherokee and Montgomery, if you’re a resident of those counties or would like to see your county pass a similar resolution, feel free to reach out to us.
While Iowa Firearms Coalition is supporting this across the state, it takes residents of those respective counties to step up and lead the charge. We simply provide the information and social media support.
A bill has been introduced into the legislature to make all of Iowa a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary, we believe Governor Kim Reynolds supports this resolution, and with every county passing one it solidifies the support to make it happen at the state level. Lets keep the momentum rolling, get 2A Sanctuary on your Supervisors agenda today! For information on 2A Sanctuary click Here
IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS
The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday to make their community a Second Amendment Sanctuary County. With the move, they become the 30th county in less than six months to pass such a resolution.
“A major milestone in the pro-freedom movement has been met today with 30 percent of all of Iowa’s counties now declaring themselves to be Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “We would like to thank the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors for supporting the rights of those they serve. Moreover, we’re optimistic their vote serves as yet another signal to lawmakers in Des Moines that now is the time to act and declare the entire Hawkeye State a Second Amendment Sanctuary.”
The IFC has been working with state and local elected officials to protect the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms in the wake of threats by some in Washington, D.C. to support actions which would infringe upon the Second Amendment.
Iowa’s Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties, so far, also include: Mitchell, Chickasaw, Pocahontas, Hardin, Carroll, Jasper, Cedar, Washington, Madison, Mills, Adams, Clarke, Humboldt, Kossuth, Ringgold, Buchanan, Van Buren, Winnebago, Decatur, Dallas, Guthrie, Benton, Page, Lucas, Taylor, Union, Hancock, Buena Vista and Wayne.
The Iowa Firearms Coalition, an affiliate of the NRA, is a 501(c4) nonprofit and is Iowa’s only effective gun rights organization.
Congratulations to Buena Vista County on becoming the 29th 2A Sanctuary and reaffirming your rights. We are one step closer to having the entire state affirm their rights to bear arms. We at Iowa Firearms Coalition would like to encourage any residents to reach out to us for assistance in making their respective county’s a 2A Sanctuary. We can help but it must be brought forth by a resident.
IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF BUENA VISTA COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS
The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors approved a statement on Tuesday, unanimously, to make their community a Second Amendment supporting county. This makes them the 29th Second Amendment Sanctuary county in Iowa.
“Buena Vista is the third county to affirm their support of the Second Amendment this month,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “Momentum is on the side of freedom and liberty and we are optimistic our lawmakers in Des Moines will soon take the steps necessary to make all of the Hawkeye state a Second Amendment Sanctuary.”

Hancock County, Iowa lives up to its name in becoming the twenty-eighth 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. Aptly named after John Hancock, an American Revolutionary and the first to sign the Declaration of Independence. By people contacting their Supervisors and asking them to pass the resolution, they are petitioning their government. One of the five freedoms protected under the 1st Amendment. Exercising your rights is the surest way to retain them.
We are nearing a third of the state becoming a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary, with that I have heard all of the arguments for and against the resolution. First I would like to state that I’m glad to hear so many people being involved in such an important issue. One of the common questions asked on both sides of the debate, is a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Resolution symbolic?
To answer a question with a question, how about we ask is there weight in symbolism? I would have to admit there is a sense of symbolism with the resolution, to put it politely it is a strong statement of defiance. That we, in this county will not comply with unconstitutional restrictions regarding the 2nd Amendment. I would say there is most definitely weight in that statement. Another fine example in keeping with the theme is a quote from John Hancock after signing the Declaration of Independence with the largest signature, “There, I guess King George will be able to read that without his spectacles!” That’s some powerful symbolism.
Another question is “where are the teeth.” First off, with this resolution at the state or county level, we are denying federal government any and all resources should they try and force their unconstitutional will on us. As far as defining what the “teeth” are, well it’s going to come down to how badly you want to keep your rights and the lengths you’re willing to go to protect them. Some people learned what the “teeth” were back in April 19, 1775 after the shot heard round the world. Now I’m not saying we’re at the point of a revolutionary rebellion, only that we are at a point where we can and should add protections for Iowans right to keep and bear arms.
By passing the resolution, the county officials are reaffirming their oath to the Constitution and making it known that they will support and protect their constituents against all enemies foreign or domestic. We as citizens should reciprocate that back to our government officials, letting them know we have their backs. For Hancock County now is a good time to contact your Supervisors and thank them for standing up for our freedoms.
In closing I would like to congratulate and thank Hancock County on becoming a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. It is our duty as Americans to be defiant against tyranny and to disobey unconstitutional laws.

Just this morning Union County, Iowa became the 27th 2nd Amendment Sanctuary in the state. It was no easy feat, I initially brought 2A Sanctuary to the Union County Board of Supervisors July 21st, 2021. We had a great discussion and I left with a mission plan. Get the Sheriff on board, get residents to contact the Supervisors and Sheriff, while also making a list of all the likely questions that may come up and providing answers for them. It didn’t take 5 months due to a lack of support. The reason for the wait was justified and made for a sweeter victory. The Supervisors and Sheriff are great stewards of Union County and simply wanted to afford the opportunity for residents to voice their stance on this key issue. That’s how a local government should be ran.
The result of this morning is the culmination of people getting involved in their local government. It is our duty as citizens to hold our elected officials accountable just as it is to petition our government, which is what we did by requesting to have a 2A Sanctuary Resolution adopted. It is just as important to contact them on all issues, not just what is important to you. However, the 2nd Amendment is the insurance policy to protect all of the other rights. Our Founding Fathers knew we would have to fight for our rights, many have forgot that.
Our right to bear arms is what keeps us free. If it falls, we fall, that is why we fight so hard to add strong protections to prevent would be tyranny. As important as it is to get involved, it’s equally important to support the groups fighting behind the scenes like Iowa Firearms Coalition, making sure to rally up support for issues such as this. We’ve been the driving force behind the 2A Sanctuary movement in Iowa, which includes Zach Nunn introducing a bill to the legislature that would make the entire state of Iowa a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. Stay tuned for more on that.
