IFC & Jared Yanis of Guns and Gadgets

YouTube’s “Guns and Gadgets” host tells IFC Chair John McLaughlin that Iowans must vote to protect their fundamental rights and approve the Freedom Amendment!

Former veteran police officer and lover of freedom, Jared Yanis now hosts what second amendment followers call their “secret weapon.” More than a half million follow his “Guns and Gadgets” channel on YouTube, not to mention thousands more on multiple other social platforms. Yanis is relentless in tracking and revealing legislation that could impact 2A, not just in Washington but every state in the U.S. Often, “G and G” will break news from well-placed sources on what’s coming down the pike from the ATF that could impact law-abiding citizens.

Vote FOR Freedom

Vote FOR Freedom

I’m urging you to flip your ballot and vote YES for the Freedom Amendment this November.

As a member of this community, and a volunteer for the group responsible for getting this measure on the ballot I feel its necessary people hear from me on this issue.

I’m the Communications Director of the Iowa Firearms Coalition. An all-volunteer grassroots Second Amendment advocacy group that fights daily for Iowans liberties.

As a combat veteran I’ve been to countries where average citizens can’t afford the rights or means of self-preservation.

As a first responder I understand fully the importance of protecting our children. Which is why the IFC pushed to allow off duty police to carry on school campuses, and to also change the law allowing schools themselves decide to arm staff or hire School Resource Officers.

That’s why I volunteer for the IFC, to preserve and protect the very freedoms I was once willing to sacrifice for abroad.

Voting for this amendment enshrines in the Iowa Constitution the recognition and protection of this fundamental human right.

Unlike what the opposition has continue to run, this amendment will not change the gun right status for prohibited possessors such as felons and domestic abusers. It will also not remove background checks.

The purpose is to restrict the chance any unconstitutional gun laws may have at passing. You can’t call yourself pro Constitution while being against this measure.

The issue is nonpartisan and is showing large scale support of over 60% of Iowans being in favor of it.

Strict Scrutiny is the piece that our opposition is taking issue with. It is the highest level of judicial review, often used when the constitutionality of a law is being challenged. What this means is that the courts must look at these cases with the highest level of prejudice. It shouldn’t be easy to strip Constitutionally protected rights, let’s not make it that way.

We know full well that if we would have added verbatim the Second Amendment, the anti-liberty crowd would still take issue with it.

So, vote yes, for freedom!

Larry Elder Endorses Freedom Amendment!

Larry Elder Endorses Freedom Amendment!

Larry Elder, nationally syndicated radio host, Fox News contributor, lawyer, and a BIG fan of protecting our Second Amendment rights, supports Iowa’s Freedom Amendment.  Turn your ballot over and VOTE YES for Iowa’s Right to Keep and Bear Arms Amendment!  We’re thankful for the support.  THANK YOU!

Do you know that Iowa is one of only six states that do not recognize our precious Second Amendment rights in their constitutions? It may seem hard to believe, but Iowa, which adopted “shall issue” Permits to Carry Weapons in 2010 and became a “constitutional carry” state in 2021, shares that dubious distinction with California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Minnesota.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition, Iowa’s only effective gun-rights organization, has been hard at work for years to get this fixed! Amending Iowa’s Constitution is no easy task. The course is long and there are many hurdles and pitfalls along the way. But the good news is that what the IFC calls the “Freedom Amendment” has now passed two consecutive Iowa General Assemblies and the issue will be on the ballot for Iowa voters to decide on November 8, 2022.

The proposed Freedom Amendment reads:

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”

Paul Pelosi and Faulty FBI Data

Paul Pelosi and Faulty FBI Data

We all were shocked when it was announced that Paul Pelosi, US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband, was brutally attacked by what turned out to be a lunatic illegal alien home invader recently at their San Francisco residence.

Some of us were not surprised by Dr. John Lott’s article at Real Clear Politics today that the FBI obscures data on the Defensive Use of Firearms by everyday American good guys to stop crime, particularly in the states where the possession of firearms by civilians is not heavily restricted. To quote Dr. Lott:

“The FBI doesn’t differentiate between law-abiding citizens stopping attacks where guns are banned and where they are allowed, but you can’t really expect law-abiding citizens to stop attacks where it is illegal to carry guns. In places where law-abiding citizens are allowed to carry firearms, the percentage of active shootings stopped is above 50% for the whole period. And, again, we are more confident that we have more of the cases in recent years.  The figure hits 58% in 2021.”

I’m sure Mr. Pelosi wished he had a gun to fight off his attacker, a man forty years his junior, instead of his bare hands. But hey, Speaker Pelosi wants everyone disarmed. So if you don’t want to be unequipped to defend yourself from a crazed home invader in the middle of the night like they are in California, flip your ballot over vote Yes on the Freedom Amendment on November 8th.

In Liberty,

IFC President Dave Funk

More Sheriffs for Freedom Amendment!

More Sheriffs for Freedom Amendment!

(TIPTON, Iowa) — Five more Iowa Sheriffs are making their support for the Freedom Amendment known ahead of the November 8th general election. They include Sheriff Jason Barnes (Madison), Sheriff Jason Sandholdt (Marion), Sheriff Adam Infante (Dallas), Sheriff Jeff Vandewater (Adair) and Sheriff Joe Carico (Warren).

These latest public endorsements come only days after six other Iowa sheriffs also announced they too would be turning their ballots over to vote “yes” for the Freedom Amendment. Those other Sheriffs are Sheriff Warren Wethington (Cedar County), Sheriff Dan Tredrow (Van Buren), Sheriff Quinn Riess (Muscatine), Sheriff Keith Davis (Wayne), Sheriff Jared Schneider (Washington) and Sheriff Robert Rotter (Iowa).

“Iowans should know their peace officers support the civil rights of those they serve,” said Cedar County Sheriff Warren Wethington. “The right to keep and bear arms is a pillar of the rights our country and state were founded on and the time to have this right protected in Iowa’s state constitution is long overdue.”

The Freedom Amendment, if approved by voters, will add the right to keep and bear arms to Iowa’s state constitution. Only six states, which includes Iowa, Minnesota, Maryland, California, New York and New Jersey, have not already adopted their own versions of the Freedom Amendment in their respective state constitutions.

“We would like to thank all of Iowa’s peace officers who’ve had the courage to share that they are putting the interests of their citizens ahead of out-of-state political groups wishing to create new government mandates and influence our elections in Iowa,” said Dave Funk, IFC President.

Recent polling from the Des Moines Register and Iowans for Tax Relief has also shown it’s not just members of law enforcement who are backing this Amendment but a strong majority of everyday Iowans too.
