How is Asa Hutchinson on the 2A? Would you like to be part of an IFC Membership Exclusive in conjunction with Brownells?
IFC members want to know the many views of each Presidential Candidate, but we’re hyper-focused on the Second Amendment. Brownells has assembled an intimate gathering to discuss the candidate’s positions while we offer our concerns about the relentless attacks on this civil right. The national stage must be shaped, and it starts right here in Iowa with the members of the Iowa Firearms Coalition.
IFC Members, if you can attend, please RSVP as we’d like you to come! This is an intimate gathering and small panel though, so the first to commit to attending will help us prepare. In order to truly have an impact and a dialogue to flow freely, we’re limiting numbers to just a few dozen IFC members. Please RSVP to be part of this Second Amendment discussion!
I consider myself quite the history buff. I find most fascinating how our country came to be. Did you know the United States is considered a social experiment? You have likely heard that we’re a government of, by and for the people. A government based on self-rule and certain rights not given by man but by a higher power. That we have certain inalienable rights, even prior to them being enshrined in the Bill of Rights. Well, it’s all true, and you are fortunate to be living in the greatest social experiment in the world.
History is a neat thing, and if you delve deep enough, you’ll learn that it often repeats itself. We had a Civil War, prior to our nation even existing for 100 years. It’s certainly possible for it to happen again, and the crazy thing is people talk about wanting it to happen. I can talk at length about how I don’t want that to happen, but I’d like to make a point about how we can prevent it. Through education.
You can tell someone that we are living in the greatest country in the world, or you can show them. There are many examples in everyday life that people take for granted. I have, and still do take things for granted like air conditioning, I’m spoiled by it. One thing I do not take for granted is the freedom that has been bestowed upon me by my creator and secured through harsh battles by those before me.
I firmly believe, the more people learn of our history, the less likely we are to repeat it. Educating ourselves and our youth will secure our freedom for generations to come. Pick up a book and do some reading. I didn’t pick up casual reading until roughly Junior High, the Iliad and the Odyssey got me hooked. They’re excellent fictional books that do a great job of helping a reader visualize the story. Now that I enjoy reading, I prefer to pick up books on our founding documents, founding fathers, and historical events. Two books I have read in the past but just recently acquired are the Federalist Papers, and the Anti-Federalist Papers. These are in short, the arguments for and against the Constitution, truthfully these should be required reading in school. *list some of your favorite books in the comments*
Our National Anthem provides a great visual to the beauty found in the chaos of war. Read or listen to the full version, immerse yourself in that visual. It also helps if you’ve got fireworks blasting in the distance, as I currently do. Which brings me to my next point, does the symbolism of fireworks and Independence Day get lost on people?
The fireworks are a celebration of rebellion; of victory; of war; of freedom, yet for liability or nuisance reasons they’re typically “illegal” unless during the week of Independence Day, often called the 4th of July. Now I’m not typically a stickler when it comes to the suppressor/silencer debate, but I do prefer to call this glorious birthday Independence Day over the 4th of July. I think in this case the term is important, what are we independent from? Tea and crumpets, gun control, oppressive dictators, tyrannical governments. The symbolism behind this day can’t get lost on people, we are Americans, and our identity is that of the gold standard of living freely.
Happy Independence Day America.

PRESIDENTS UPDATE: LEGISLATIVE REPORT, 2A DAY, AND THE IFC-PAC DINNER
First up is this week’s legislative update. We are following several bills of interest and as you know reigning in “ESG” is one of our top priorities. The United States is still a free country, and unlike Communist China, we don’t have social scores controlling our thoughts, actions, and travels – yet. Not only do we have a bill introduced in the Iowa House and Senate, but Governor Reynolds also introduced her own anti-ESG bill last Thursday. The only substantial difference is that the House version goes further by mandating that state-chartered financial institutions do not discriminate against the protected industries. Both bills require that the state not invest in or contract with companies that boycott the firearm, fossil fuel, or agricultural industries.
For up-to-date information on the bills you can find them here at the IFC PAC Bill Tracker.
We are working with our allies at the State Capital, and expect another Omnibus firearms bill introduced soon.
Just a few weeks away, I hope to meet everyone at National 2A Day on February 22, 2023, at the Iowa Capital. You can find more information here including times, parking information, and schedule of events.
We also have a chance for you to meet our 2A Day keynote speaker, Kris “Tanto” Paronto at the Second Annual 2A Day IFC PAC Steak Dinner that evening in Clive at the Front Row bar. Seats are limited and you can get yours at the IFC PAC Events page.
Shoot Straight, Speak The Truth, and Never Surrender Our Liberties.
It’s been a remarkable week in the Iowa legislature, particularly in the House of Representative’s Judiciary Committee. Monday the Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act passed its subcommittee vote. Tuesday the Hearing Protection Act passed its subcommittee vote. And Thursday the ATV Carry Act passed its subcommittee vote. This means we now have four bills awaiting votes in the full judiciary committee (the Emergency Protection Act passed its subcommittee vote a week ago), and expect more to be introduced.
For the latest information on each of these bills, including a list of which lawmakers will be voting on these issues next, head on over to our 2016 Iowa Legislative Session page.
This week also saw a noteworthy development on the national stage. Michael Bloomberg, the anti-gun movement’s sugar daddy recently announced that he’s seriously considering a run for president. He’s allegedly prepared to spend $1 billion dollars of his own money to self-fund his campaign. Bloomberg, the Godfather of Gun Control, thinks he could enter the race as a “moderate candidate” and take the White House. It sounds like a farce, but it’s possible.
Bloomberg’s announcement shines a light on a major problem here in Iowa. There’s zero mention of the people of Iowa’s right to keep and bear arms in our state constitution. We’re one of only six states in the entire country without a right to keep and bear arms clause in our state constitution. This oversight could prove disastrous should we ever find ourselves with another President Clinton… or President Bloomberg. The link below has more information about this situation and what the Iowa Firearms Coalition is doing to right this wrong.
And finally, we’re extremely proud to announce this year’s Second Amendment Day in the Iowa Legislature will be held on February 23rd. The Iowa Firearms Coalition has organized a legislative action day in the state capitol and it’s open to any and all pro-Second Amendment advocates in Iowa.
Come out, meet IFC’s lobbyists and leaders, meet your fellow Second Amendment advocates, but most importantly meet your legislators and make your voice heard in the absolute best way possible, face-to-face.
This year’s Second Amendment Day will be on a Tuesday, so the legislature will be in session. Which means your legislators won’t be able to ignore the mass of Second Amendment advocates in the capitol. So circle that date and start making arrangements to bring a truckload of friends. Once again this year’s Second Amendment Day will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd.
2/23… 2.23… .223… see what we did there? 😉 More details about what time to be in the capitol and what to expect will be released soon. For now please hit the link below and sign up to join us at the capitol!

Long before Joni Ernst was elected to congress, she was a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.
We’ve been big fans of Joni for a long time. She’s a mother, a soldier, and someone who recognizes it is her responsibility to protect herself.
In 2012 at our Second Amendment Rally, Joni proudly boasted that she owned a “beautiful little Smith and Wesson 9mm” that she carries virtually everywhere in her little black purse. Fast forward to the 7:25 mark in our YouTube clip to see Joni talk about the importance of concealed carry laws and Second Amendment rights.
We’re proud that Joni’s a supporter of the Iowa Firearms Coalition, and we’re extremely happy that Iowa’s first woman elected to congress is such a strong protector of the Second Amendment.
Make ’em squeal Joni!
