Union County – Iowa’s 27th 2A Sanctuary

Union County – Iowa’s 27th 2A Sanctuary

Just this morning Union County, Iowa became the 27th 2nd Amendment Sanctuary in the state. It was no easy feat, I initially brought 2A Sanctuary to the Union County Board of Supervisors July 21st, 2021. We had a great discussion and I left with a mission plan. Get the Sheriff on board, get residents to contact the Supervisors and Sheriff, while also making a list of all the likely questions that may come up and providing answers for them. It didn’t take 5 months due to a lack of support. The reason for the wait was justified and made for a sweeter victory. The Supervisors and Sheriff are great stewards of Union County and simply wanted to afford the opportunity for residents to voice their stance on this key issue. That’s how a local government should be ran.

The result of this morning is the culmination of people getting involved in their local government. It is our duty as citizens to hold our elected officials accountable just as it is to petition our government, which is what we did by requesting to have a 2A Sanctuary Resolution adopted. It is just as important to contact them on all issues, not just what is important to you. However, the 2nd Amendment is the insurance policy to protect all of the other rights. Our Founding Fathers knew we would have to fight for our rights, many have forgot that.

Our right to bear arms is what keeps us free. If it falls, we fall, that is why we fight so hard to add strong protections to prevent would be tyranny. As important as it is to get involved, it’s equally important to support the groups fighting behind the scenes like Iowa Firearms Coalition, making sure to rally up support for issues such as this. We’ve been the driving force behind the 2A Sanctuary movement in Iowa, which includes Zach Nunn introducing a bill to the legislature that would make the entire state of Iowa a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. Stay tuned for more on that.

IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF TAYLOR AND LUCAS COUNTIES BECOMING “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARIES”

The Taylor and Lucas County Board of Supervisors, respectively, have each approved their own resolutions to make their counties Second Amendment Sanctuaries. There are now 26 Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties in Iowa.

“This is the third Iowa county to pass a Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution this week,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “While we applaud, and encourage more of Iowa’s counties to pass their own resolutions, the speed at which local elected leaders are taking a stand against unnecessary federal overreach should send a clear message to Washington that Iowans will not accept any steps to infringe on their civil rights.”

While Second Amendment Sanctuary legislation at the county level does not supersede federal law, it does prevent local resources from being used to enforce measures that are at odds with the U.S. Constitution.

The IFC has been working with state and local elected officials to protect the right of Iowans to keep and bear arms in the wake of threats by some in Washington, D.C. to support actions that would infringe upon the Second Amendment.

Iowa’s Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties, so far, also include: Mitchell, Chickasaw, Pocahontas, Hardin, Carroll, Jasper, Cedar, Washington, Madison, Mills, Adams, Clarke, Humboldt, Kossuth, Ringgold, Buchanan, Van Buren, Winnebago, Decatur, Dallas, Guthrie, Benton, Page, and Wayne.

Page County – 24th 2A Sanctuary!

IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF PAGE COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS

The Page County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday to make their county Iowa’s 24th Second Amendment Sanctuary.

“At this point, it’s become a job, in the greatest sense of the word, to keep track of how many communities are affirming their Second Amendment rights,” said Dave Funk, IFC President. “We would like to thank the Page County Board of Supervisors for taking this important step in the fight against federal encroachment.”

While Second Amendment Sanctuary legislation at the county level does not supersede federal law, it does prevent local resources from being used to enforce measures that are at odds with the U.S. Constitution.

Winnebago County Affirms Your Civil Rights!

Winnebago County Affirms Your Civil Rights!

IFC WELCOMES NEWS OF WINNEBAGO COUNTY’S “SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARY” STATUS

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution on Monday to make their county Iowa’s 18th Second Amendment Sanctuary.

“We are truly amazed but not surprised to see many of Iowa’s local elected officials taking a stand against Constitutional infringements,” said Michael Ware, IFC Chair. “It is our hope Governor Kim Reynolds will take notice of this clear trend sweeping across the Hawkeye state and in turn will issue a proclamation soon declaring all of Iowa a Second Amendment Sanctuary.”

While Second Amendment Sanctuary legislation at the county level does not supersede federal law, it does prevent local resources from being used to enforce measures that are at odds with the U.S. Constitution.

Hancock and Guthrie counties’ supervisors are expected to vote on their own Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions next week.
