What is the IFC Educator Academy?

The Iowa Firearms Coalition, in cooperation with active-shooter researcher Lt. Col. Ed Monk (US Army retired) and military veteran and police trainer Adam Winch of Defenders-USA, have developed the IFC Educator Academy: Present, Trained, Willing.

Three full days of training begin with a historical look at the active shooter threat in schools and the sobering reality that the threat must be neutralized in the first 30 seconds to one minute in order to keep the victim count low.

Educators will be trained in basic tactical movement and the balance of speed and accuracy when firing a handgun.  Each participant will be evaluated with a firearms skills assessment before the training and at the end to gather metrics on improvement in accuracy, time to draw from concealment and the ability to shoot precisely at a variety of distances under pressure.  This data will be used to tweak the curriculum with the goal of offering “best practices” and streaming video content of Ed Monk’s presentation to all interested Iowa educational institutions. Additional instructional blocks include Trauma Medicine, Deep Concealment for Educators, and What to Do When the Shooting Stops.

18 participants will be selected to attend the 30-hour course.  Applicants should have or will obtain, an Iowa permit to carry weapons before the class. The scholarship covers the $1000.00 course fee and lunch during training.  Successful applicants will need to provide an appropriate firearm, concealed holster, and a minimum of 500 rounds of ammunition.

Monumental 2A Win!

Monumental 2A Win!

The State of New York bars anyone without a firearm license from carrying inside or outside the home under their “Proper Cause” law. Meaning in order to obtain a CPL you must prove a reason why, instead of simply exercising that right like the numerous states with Constitutional Carry. This is the largest 2nd Amendment case in 14 years, stemming from two gun owners who had their CPLs denied for not being able to provide proper cause. To view the full opinion, click HERE.

A powerful statement from page 3 of the above link. “Indeed, the Court recognized in Heller at least one way in which the Second Amendment’s historically fixed meaning applies to new circumstances: Its reference to “arms” does not apply “only [to] those arms in existence in the 18th century.”  Although we know the left will ignore it, this should put an end to their sentiments about the 2A being outdated and not applying to present or future weapons.

Currently in New York it’s nearly impossible to get a firearms license unless you’re a former LEO, cash business owner, or of course celebrities. This is designed mostly to prevent the average citizen from defending themselves, a direct violation of the 2nd and 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The Supreme Court of the United States just made a monumental 6-3 decision to strike down the “proper cause” law. This could possibly mean “shall issue” carry nationwide, stay tuned to see how it all works out.  Like the DC v. Heller case reaffirmed the right to keep and bear arms within the home, this new SCOTUS decision tells us what we already know by reaffirming the right to keep and bear arms outside the home.

This is truly a monumental decision, and an exciting win for the New York State Rifle and Pistol Assocand well done to the gentlemen who prevailed against tyranny.

IFC Warrior Wednesday – Carl Chinn on Church Threats

IFC Warrior Wednesday – Carl Chinn on Church Threats

IFC Chair John McLaughlin visits with Carl Chinn, founder of the Faith Based Security Network on the threats facing churches today. In the last two decades, violent acts on faith-based properties have continued to increase. The FBSN assists churches with training standards for armed team members, templates for developing plans and procedures, and the sharing of threat information. The FBSN was started after Carl Chinn was one of four people held hostage at gunpoint at the Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado in 1996 where Chinn was a building engineer. Eleven years later Chinn was part of a security team that responded to an active shooter at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. FBSN now serves 47 states. DNR Finalizes Location of Townhalls for Crucial Hunting, Trapping, and Rule Changes

The Iowa Firearms Coalition consists of many avid hunters, just as much as we put value in the ethical harvest of game, we put value in sharing the most up to date information regarding the DNR. The following is a very important list of events we would like to encourage our members and followers to attend.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting and trapping seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting and trapping rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested.
